The food is almost always good at any location. I have to admit it’s pretty consistent. The customer service on the other sucks at the capital heights location. First time there I waited over an hour for grilled pork chops, this time I ordered right off the hot bar and it still took 20 plus mins to get out of there! No line at all but after the server put the chicken in the box it sat there forever before the sides were put in. So I’ll just use the largo location for here on out.

I truly do not understand having a soul food restaurant, however not having soul food people cooking the soul food. When I walked in the fish looked good the blackened catfish look good however the macaroni and cheese truly tells you the story of what everything else might taste like. And it looked oily and orangy. Also if I’m coming to a soul food restaurant that’s who and what I expect to see. I should have walked out when I walked in the same happened at Rhode Island avenue after the pandemic and this is my first time at the Capitol heights location. If I go back, because I do believe in supporting what I thought was a black-owned business and I enjoy soul food, however if I return and the conditions are the same I will immediately do an about face. The honey cornbread muffins that I so loved were a 3 on a scale of 1 to 10. They kind of tasted okay however it stuck to the packaging in the top part of the cornbread was hard. The fish was good however it didn’t smell fresh, the green beans were okay and the candy yams were more pureed than chunks. I’m not sure who’s grandmother or aunt who knows how to cook of course they need to go grab if the issue is the amount of pay. Whoever it is in my opinion they should test their cooking prior to hiring.
I would love to see this location recover and grow however staff changes need to be made quickly. The kitchen should be soul food people and the front line should be those who are more customer friendly.

Upon visiting the establishment today I had the pleasure of meeting ” Go Home ROGER”, the most well versed, attentive, patient, empathetic, customer oriented culinary service professional I have interacted with in ages. Roger was professional yet personable, diligent and still relative. My family have dietary restrictions and the expertise and willingness to go above & beyond reassured me I could proceed with my patronage. Roger’s services were so well delivered that I purchased another plate. Regretfully, the establishment doesn’t permit electronic tips. Nevertheless, I look forward to visiting again just to experience Roger’s wonderful and immeasurable level of services again. (The entire staff was wonderful)
All praises to the Most High, the CREATOR for mercy & provision. Thank you kindly Roger.

First and last time at this location. The whiten fish was over fried and no telling how long it was sitting out. Over priced garbage. Couldn’t eat it at all, went straight to the trash. The sides were good as usually. They should cook the fish fresh as requested. Definitely not getting the fish again. Rhode Island location was the best…. never should’ve closed.

My homegirl took me here when I was visiting the DMV area a few weeks ago because of the plant based section (thank you!) and then, I took my boyfriend when I was there over the weekend. This food is so good to me. Rich and heavy so I have to eat it in moderation. Customer service has been awesome both times I visited. I truly enjoyed this place and will be back next time I’m in town. The true bonus, stress free and plenty of parking!

If you are looking for some good old soul food cooking Carolina Kitchen is the place. They have several locations to dine in or carryout. The staff are are welcoming, providing great customer service. The best part is food…it tastes just like grandma’s cooking. You will not be disappointed.

I don’t give out five stars too often. My girlfriend and I was visiting. We were doing 2 days of museums and what not in DC. Had a hotel nearby. Best food we had since we visited. A little pricey but you get a lot out of your buck. They don’t cheat you on your food. Highly recommend. It could be slight busy. It could be just because of the time we went. But if it’s busy it must be good

Went here today to experience the newly opened restaurant and I really enjoyed my visit I was greeted at the door and given a brief overview of the menu. I have been waiting for this location to open since I live only 5 minutes away. I had the fried whiting dinner with mac n cheese, collard greens, potato salad, a single pork chop and the cornbread muffin comes with it and let me tell you everything was a 10/10 highly recommend!! so delicious and I will be returning to try some new items. It is absolutely beautiful the decor is so elevated. If I could make two suggestions it would be to display a menu with prices and lower the music volume it was difficult to communicate with the servers behind the counter.

I try to support black businesses but businesses like Carolina Kitchen make it so hard! The fact that you would charge $45 for 1 rib platter and $36 for salmon that is dry and tasteless is totally ridiculous. And don’t say its inflation cause its greed. And the reason there are no lines out the door like it used to be! They lost their minds the minute they expanded. It was 8 people in there today and will keep decreasing. Why would we spend that kind of money on 1 meal when Longhorn has better for half the price? Famous daves has a feast with ribs, chicken, and brisket that feeds a whole family for less. And it’s sad because the lady who cooks the vegan side is amazing but I would never recommend you because you upped the price by at least $5 on each dish. We will not support black businesses that don’t support our communities pockets.
