Steak ‘n Shake, a classic American brand, was founded in 1934 in Normal, Illinois by Gus Belt who pioneered the concept of premium burgers and milkshakes. For over 85 years, the company’s name has been symbolic of its heritage. The word steak stood for steakburger. The term shake stood for hand-dipped milkshakes. Gus was determined to serve his customers the finest burgers and shakes in the business. Today, Steak ‘n Shake remains the better burger leader, serving premium 100% beef steakburgers, hand-dipped milkshakes, thin crispy fries, and more. Steakburgers are made without preservatives or artificial ingredients, topped with fresh produce, and always hand-crafted to order.
Chain known for steakburgers & milkshakes offering a dinerlike space with retro flair.

45 minutes til actual close, I go in and ask for my online order. They say they aren’t open that they close at 9. I said I placed an online and they say they didn’t get it and that they close at 930. So now the close time has changed mid conversation. Why was the store closed though? What’s online got to do with the whole store? Manager shows up, vanessa i think, and never offered to make my food and claimed ignorance on issuing a refund. This lovely manager said she doesn’t care about me or my refund. She gets hysterical enough I resort to photographing for evidence. This is her trying to attack my phone.
Pulled up to the order area and said I was notified my order was ready. He asked me to pull to the driveway thru window. After waiting 7 minutes, I decided to go in. As I walk in, the “manager” runs out to stop a van from driving off with apparently both of our orders. They were bagged all together. Another worker separates everything and rebags. I asked the “manager” several times if everything was in my bag bc it was so light. I even told him item by item what i should have. Never looked, kept telling me, it was ALL there.
I decided to open and look after I had pulled out and nope…. Missing the fries. Turned around. I walked back in and told him that fries were missing. NO sorry or anything! Just ordered the one guy to get a large French fry. Everything was nice and cold by the time I got home. Take a look at the chili with spaghetti. It was absolutely horrible!
Terrible management and horribly slow service! I will not be returning anytime soon.
Her clear communication and tone/enthusiasm were amazing!!
Her ability to make ordering and getting good fast and easy made this struggle of a day better. Whenever everything seems to be going wrong, it is so nice to have something turn it around.
Thank you, Vanessa, for doing such an amazing job!!
Hours say open until 10pm. I drive 15 minutes out of my way to be kind of rudely told they are closed. So unexpected. Again, I drove out of my way because of my previous review. Lights were on. Open sign was on. People were leaving out with food. People were still inside eating food. But it’s 9:22pm and I was told they were closed. It would be nice if they would update their hours online. Gotta change my rating.
Finally… I got a Double Steak cheeseburger that was and tasted like a Double Steak cheeseburger. Kudos to “that” cook. They deserve a raise and more. Food is usually a 1 out of 5, but tonight is 10 out of 5. Every once in a while, I take a chance, hoping to get a good burger, and tonight was that night. Can’t say I’ll stop by any time soon again, but more nights like tonight could make me a regular again.
