CASH ONLY – Authentic, delicious and reasonably priced. Would post photos but we wasted no time digging in. Enchilada sauce is one of the best I’ve had and the beans have flavor. Everything was great. 3 large plates and 2 al a carte cheese enchiladas was less than $50

I loved the shaded parking. Arrived at 1045, menu says breakfast until 1030, Mary said ok to order breakfast. Both of our meals were fantastic. Service friendly and quick. This is the best diner in town. I do not understand when I search “restaurants nearby” this does not show up on Google Maps.

Food did not live up to expectations I was told. Cash only, had to walk next door to use ATM. Service was absolutely horrible. Mary herself is quite rude. Very disappointed. Will make NO attempt to try to bilingually understand you. With so many Mexican restaurants down in South Texas why not go the extent to be better. Only reason Mary’s is still in business is because of Rio Hondo itself, once there are other alternatives, it will go the way of the cart and buggy. Try it yourself.

Mary has my heart… She’s a wonderful, personable, funny woman who is a hard worker. This is reflected in her cafe. ALWAYS clean, the food is deliciously consistant and always hits the spot. I recommend my usual, the huevos racheros!!! So yummy!!!! For lunch, the chicken tacos are amazingly tastey! Go in and say hi to Mary alongside all of her local and winter texan regulars!

Mary has been serving Rio Hondo for 45 years! The best Mexican cafe food in the Valley. If you want local food and support local owners….You must eat Mary’s Cafe! Grab some of her tacos on the way to go fishing out of Arroyo City! Will keep you full all day on Laguna Madre!
