This was my first and last time at the Oyster Bar. I was not impressed at all. The food although seems to be of good quality and well cooked lacks flavor, just simply bland. The tartar sauce and limes helped tremendously. Although not a fan of Long John Silver’s, I believe it has more flavor than this food! The atmosphere seems pretty boring and does not resemble that of a seafood restaurant in appearance. Service was mediocre at best. I repeatedly had to wait for my tea refills and the waiter seemed too busy for us. I only waved him down once and he looked bothered by a simple request. I don’t believe he realized the face and sound he made as he turned around to acknowledge me. Also, It’s common knowledge that a small glass that is mostly filled with ice rather than tea will finish pretty quickly. This is pretty normal practice with how teas are poured since it requires lots of ice. So I recommend using larger glasses with tea or be prepared to refill more often. Common sense is like a rare flower, it doesn’t grow in every garden!

Went with some friends after church for dinner. The atmosphere sold it for me. The music, and the mood were awesome. Loved all the Christmas decorations and the mellow songs from the old days. The menu was pricey, but considering prices of everything these days . It was fair. My friends all ordered the fried shrimp and I had the grilled chicken salad. It was all tasty

Had a very disappointing experience lastnight at Oyster Bar in Harlingen, TX. I brought my mother and grandmother out to eat and had my two young children with me (ages 3 and 5). My kids don’t eat seafood, so before arriving I purchased them a small kids’ meal so they would have something to eat while the rest of us enjoyed dinner.
When we walked in, no one mentioned that outside food was not allowed. It wasn’t until my children were already sitting down and eating that the waiter approached us and questioned who allowed me to bring food in, then told us we had to leave because my kids were not eating food from the restaurant.
As a parent, this was extremely frustrating and embarrassing — especially since my children were already in the middle of eating. Had we been informed at the door, I would have completely understood and made other arrangements. Instead, we had to pack up and leave mid-meal, and by the time we found another place to go, my kids’ food was cold.
Only on the way out did we notice a very small sign about no outside food, which we genuinely did not see when entering. While I understand restaurants have policies, the situation could have been handled with much more understanding and professionalism, especially considering we had young children and were dining with family.
Unfortunately, the overall experience and customer service were disappointing enough that I will not be returning.

My husband and I went for the first time and it was ok. The service was great, but the food was extremely bland. I had fried shrimp that had no seasoning including the shrimp sauce that tasted like tomato sauce. The tarter sauce was mainly mayonnaise also. My husband had the fried fish and it was also the same. The side salad was barely chopped up iceberg lettuce with two tomato slices and a piece of onion. The house dressing was similar to yum yum sauce but with more mayonnaise. For paying over $60 at lunchtime for the two of us, we won’t be back. It’s unfortunate but we were hoping for a larger menu and tastier food!

Neat , clean place for seafood.
Oysters were fresh , they had Fried Scallops, which I asked if could be grilled or pan grilled and my request was politely denied !
Shall try their whole fish next time.
Fresh hot bun and butter is a plus point !

I recently ordered a large shrimp cocktail from this establishment, and I was quite disappointed with my experience. When the cocktail was handed to me, the cup felt unusually light. Upon arriving at work and opening the bag, I discovered that the cup was only halfway filled. This was surprising, as I’ve ordered from there before, and the to-go cups were always full, especially for the large size.
I hope this is an isolated incident, but I wanted to bring it to attention.

It’s of old people working and eating there. Our waiter literally took 15mins to bring us our drinks and was slow all night and there was only 3 tables going. The food was undercooked and the ingredients were questionable. I didn’t get sick but I would never take someone else there or go back ever again. Cheaper food that is well executed is a much better deal.

I love the shrimp plate from this place. The loaded bake potatoes are delicious. The nice warm rolls and the salad are perfect for me!

The Oyster Bar is one of my favorite seafood restaurants, I’ve been enjoying their food since childhood, at the McAllen location, which no longer exists. So my family and I gladly drive from Edinburg to Harlingen to get our “fix.” I always enjoy the fried shrimp plate, baked potato, & the side salad with the house dressing. Free dinner rolls and crackers are offered too.

Had fish and shrimp plates. Both were okay. The fries were not salted. The side salad was iceberg lettuce with two slices of tomato. They added a red onion ring on top. Overall the meal was average.
