This place used to be authentic, but not anymore. The ambience is still nice, but the food quality has gone down.
I ordered for store collection and, for the price they charge, the service and packaging were disappointing. I trusted the order and didn’t check before leaving, but when I opened it later the food was poor quality and some items had already spilled from the boxes.
They said 30 minutes but I waited almost 2 hours. I understand places can get busy, but this was frustrating without proper communication. I am posting this review after facing the same issue repeatedly and not rectified even speaking to the management in the past. Unfortunately, the management doesn’t take the negative feedback well. Using ‘Award winning restaurant’ tag to ignore mistakes is really disappointing!

Very grateful that mattancherry were able to accommodate a large table on a Friday night. Our antinatal class booked for 12 but ended up being a group of 10 as someone went into labour!
The food is exceptional for both meat eaters and veggies, definitely the best currys in Taunton (and there are lots of decent options). Extensive menu, and it’s not just the bog standard choices.
Service is great, attentive but not overbearing. Restaurant atmosphere is lovely, in part because it’s always bustling in there. Thanks for a lovely evening!

Had a meal for 2 people on Friday evening. The food was excellent and the staff were very attentive without being annoying. It was busy but we never felt rushed. We had the Patha Chat and Beef Dry Fry for starters, both of which tasted divine! The decor is great, could have had a bit of gentle background music to add to the ambience but everything else was faultless. I’ll definitely be back.

We purchased a takeaway last night, 3 main course, 2 rice and a naan bread. We accept prices have increased but still expect a certain quality. This cost £61. The chicken was a bit scarce and gone are the days of a big fluffy naan bread, it was so tiny! However, the sauces were very thin and watery with no resemblance to what you would expect in the way of flavour or consistency. The predominant flavour was salt. The chicken korma sauce can only be described as a chicken stock cube in water. The dhansak, a few lentils in another stock cube and water and the granny’s curry could have indeed been made my granny who unfortunately passed away many years ago, and could quite easily have been frozen at the time, defrosted and a stock cube added. No, we did not send back, three tired bods who just wanted something to eat. We ate a bit and threw the rest. Doing a negative review is not my thing but in this case thoroughly deserved.

Thank you everyone at Mattancherry for the most delicious beautifully cooked meal last night. We will definitely be returning as first time been here, but can’t wait to return over the new year. This is now our regular.
Great atmosphere and staff attentive. But the star of the show is the food, definitely. Having been to India I can truly say you have captured the flavour of Kerala, fabulous ingredients, spices and delicately cooked and presented.

Went with a group of four on Sunday evening. Lovely food and atmosphere. Attentive staff that made us feel so welcome. Helped us with the menu too. Didn’t feel like we were a nuisance just great service! Thank you for a lovely evening.

We have had the most amazing food every time we have been.
The service is superb you are treated like royalty they go out of the way to make you feel special.
I cannot fault this restaurant the food is not like your run of the mill curry restaurants the taste and style is different.
