The Fairway not only provides on-site service for golfers but is also ready to deliver to the homes of Golfers and many other guests through the Doordash delivery system.
My husband and I finally had the chance to try this restaurant after years of wanting to go. The menu looked promising, and we started with two appetizers: the Wisconsin cheese curds and the spinach dip. The cheese curds were delicious, especially with the ranch dressing. The spinach dip itself was fine, but the tortilla chips served with it had a bitter aftertaste that took away from the overall flavor.
The restaurant was very busy, so it took nearly an hour from ordering to receiving our meals. My husband ordered the “Hole in One” burger. Unfortunately, the drizzle of hot honey on top of the bun made it messy and unpleasant to eat. The burger sounded smoky and savory in the description, but the overwhelming amount of garlic aioli overpowered everything else. He couldn’t taste the bacon jam, bacon, or cheeses at all through the garlic aioli.
I ordered the Brisket Stacker, which sounded amazing with pimento cheese, crispy jalapeños, onion straws, BBQ sauce, and a pickle. The first bite was very pimento-forward, and I hoped it was just that one bite but it only got worse. The amount of pimento cheese was excessive to the point that it coated my mouth and masked all other flavors. Visually, there was clearly more pimento cheese than anything else on the sandwich. The “onion straws” turned out to be two thick chunks of fried onion, and the “crispy jalapeños” were just three unevenly cut battered pieces. I could see BBQ sauce, but couldn’t taste it at all. Even the acid from the pickle couldn’t cut through the overwhelming flavor of the cheese. After just two bites, I felt nauseous and told my husband I couldn’t continue eating it.
Our waitress seemed nice but was busy bussing and serving other tables. When she finally came by, I let her know the sandwich was inedible. She apologized and took the plate, which was still more than 75% full and later returned with the bill, noting she had discounted the sandwich. The discount? Just 15%. I was shocked, considering I couldn’t eat it, and the slaw was had a singular bite taken out and there was more then half of the fries left on my plate.
As we were paying, another waitress stopped by to ask about our experience. We were honest. She said she’d talk to someone and returned to say the 15% discount was the best they could do and that we should have said something earlier. However, given how busy the place was (as she herself acknowledged), we didn’t even have the opportunity to speak up during the meal.
In total, we spent $110 after tax and tip. The best part of the night was the cheese curds, but unfortunately, the overall experience was disappointing. I’m not sure we’ll be returning.
The only thing I wish is if they did breakfast on the weekends. The breakfast they do for Mothers day and Easter are amazing and it would be packed every weekend due to the lack of breakfast options in Marshall.
