We enjoyed our visit to the Hungry Pelican. They had nice sandwiches and seemed to get pretty busy after we had arrived. They use Dietz and Watson deli meats for their sandwiches. The Godfather was a tasty Italian sandwich on ciabatta A nice stop for lunch while visiting Manteo.

Absolute hidden gem for sure. My family and I were in the area for the Aquarium and were looking a good place to grab some lunch and I am so glad we stumbled across the Hungry Pelican. We all talked about how good our lunch for days! My mom and wife had a taco salad and Hawaiian salad and both Absolutely love them but I think I was the big winner with the Angry Bird sandwich and the oriental noodles! Wasnt much of an atmosphere but the food really makes up for that. Be sure to stop by and give it a try! I didnt get many pictures because we all dove in because we were so hungry.

Honestly, Hungry Pelican has my personal favorite cold sandwiches on the island by far. The environment is cozy and the staff is kind, and I’ve got several lunch-with-friends memories here across all kinds of people. Honestly I haven’t met one person who’s disliked it, no matter what they’ve gotten. Totally recommend it whether you’re visiting or you live here already.

Perfect pit stop after driving a long time and visiting the nearby lighthouse. A bit nondescript at first glance it really is a great little deli/lunch spot. My mom and I shared a chipotle chicken sandwich and salad, and it tasted wonderful. Good ciabatta bread and seasoned well. My mom wished they had bleu cheese dressing or a wider array of options in that regard. But otherwise the staff welcomed us and gave good suggestions. The seating area tucked in the back corner was cute and private.

This family owned and run restaurant is amazing. The prices are fabulous, the kids meals come with everything they need and then some. My husband and I had 2 different sandwiches and they were fantastic! The bread was super fresh and moist and had just the right amount of meat. This place is a hidden gem! It’s a must if you are in the area.

We had 2 veggie sandwiches (delicious, with a little fresh vinaigrette inside) one bag of chips (not knowing the sandwiches come with fries) and one fountain drink for $19 ish. Cute interior with seating, and there’s some outside but it was too hot

The Hungry Pelican is recently relocated to the historic district of Manteo, in I was told a much better location and then before. Parking is on the street but was not hard to find a spot close to the restaurant. Coming in are picnic tables and a cute sign with a pelican eating a sandwich. The shop is nice and clean and decorated beautifully. My boys of course had to use the restroom and I swear that is the cleaning and prettiest bathroom I have ever needed to use. Our sandwiches were ordered at the counter by a nice courteous girl who was patient with our young ones picking out what they wanted. Kids meals come with apple sauce and scooby snacks and a drink. They are reasonably priced under $6.00. My wife and I quickly picked out sandwiches and took a seat in the dining room which was also clean, comfortable and well decorated. Drinks are fountain style serve yourself and free refills. Our food came out quickly and was fresh and delicious. We ate and left planning to come back for their wide selection of ice cream. After walking around the nice shops there we came back and ordered ice cream. Kids size $1.50. Wow what a deal! Single scoop under $3.00.(Really three big scoops) They had a nice selection of fresh baked goods from a local bakery including brownies, muffins and coffee cake which my wife had. Only dessert for 4 on vacation under $20.00. Our bill was not even $9.00. We took our desert outside and sat at the picnic table and had a nice conversation with two young ladies whose family owns the resturant. My oldest must have been smitten by them and couldn’t stop showing off to impress them. He is only 6. We will be back at least once more this trip. This place is awesome!! We will be back again this vacation and definitely more everytime we visit.

Would recommend highly for great service, very tasty sandwiches and cookies, and a cheerful casual dining area. Had the roast beef club, substituting cheddar cheese for Gouda, and coleslaw for chips. Loved the lemon blueberry and salted caramel pretzel cookies.
