Born and raised in Guerrero, Mexico, the journey to Chano’s Cantina started with my humble beginnings as a dishwasher in Mexican and world renowned restaurants. Climbing the ranks from bartender to manager, I realized my dream in April of 2019 with the opening of Chano’s Cantina.

Great find near our hotel in Long Island City. The atmosphere was warm and lively, service was friendly, and everything we ordered was delicious. From the chips and guacamole to the main dishes and great drinks. The food was flavorful, well-presented, and honestly exceeded expectations.
The only reason for not giving five stars is a very important safety detail. The churros are listed on the menu as being served with chocolate, but what was actually served was Nutella. Thankfully, my partner noticed immediately, as someone in our party has a tree nut allergy. This could have resulted in a hospital visit if it hadn’t been caught in time. He mentioned it to the manager on our way out.
We really enjoyed our meal overall, but menu accuracy with allergens is critical. Hopefully this is addressed, because aside from that scary moment, the experience was excellent and this place has a lot going for it.

A bit too expensive for what was provided. Just some constructive criticism to explain the two stars rating. It was a Friday evening and I decided to give them a try. Was interested in something healthy. A chicken salad is always the way to go and I have had other chicken salads from restaurants in the area and was very pleased.
The menu is outside the restaurant. Says the salad is twelve and chicken four dollars extra. See photo. Ok. After reading the menu I decided to go inside.
Yeah well. Bait and switch. As I watched them enter the order into the system, I noticed chicken was 5 dollars extra. The salad 13. Hmmm. 18 dollars when it should have been 16. I asked about the discrepancy. The guy admitted the menu was old and didn’t even attempt to honor the price as on the menu.
I was Hungry at the time and decided to go with the order.
The salad was way too small. I wasn’t filled or satisfied. Still hungry. Look at the other salad. Twice as big.
I just checked and they even have the menu on Google Maps saying the salad is 12 and chicken is 4. I think the guy deliberately ripped me off. Well I won’t stand for it and I am letting everyone know
The guy should have honored the other price but he was greedy and this is the price you pay for being greedy with customers over two dollars. I can just imagine how they rip other customers off in other ways.

Amazing food and drinks. Staff are 10/10. Margs are great. Steak and chicken Quesadillas were some of the best ive ever had.

This place is amazing. Best Mexican food I’ve had since living in Las Vegas 5 years ago. They have heuvos rancheros on their lunch menu but we’re nice enough to make it for me for dinner. Thank the universe they did. Best heuvos rancheros I’ve ever had. Seriously, I’ve been racking my brain to remember if I’ve had better, and I haven’t. They serve on fried masa cakes which are stupendous. My partner had the chicken enchiladas and the meat was tender and juicy. If I have any complaints it is that the food lacks spicy heat, including the salsa, and I did not think the rice had any flavor. Those are minor. The meals were amazing. If I lived in NY this would be my go to place. Just fantastic. Wish I could give it six stars.

Very lovely place to dine. Food was delicious and the restaurant is very beautiful inside. Absolutely loved the mofongo, but every dish we ordered was awesome. The molcajete is great to try a bunch of different things, and it comes with tortillas. The sauce is quite salty and tangy, but still I highly recommend it. They have pretty generous “happy hour” hours, so before 7pm on weekdays you can get a good deal on some drinks!

The food drinks and the desserts are amazing! The service was awesome and music was on point. Good place to take your family to eat brunch and to hang out with your friends. 10 out of 10 hands down! This is a place you keep coming back to and try everything on the menu. The food hits different a little taste of heaven.

First time ordering on July 10. Was a bit disappointed.
We ordered the Broccoli burrito w chicken, grilled corn, ground beef tacos and chips and guacamole.
Called for recommendations and the gentleman who answered was so kind and very sweet. Staff is clearly amazing. He said the broccoli burrito was a popular item. Didn’t hate it, but wasn’t in love either. I felt like it was a nice size, well balanced as far as ingredients and well priced. They offer a chicken or shrimp add-on. Would have been nice if steak was also an option. Maybe I would like the steak? Guac and chips were pretty good. Was most disappointed by the ground beef tacos. They are a rare menu item to find so I was happy to see them as an offering. These tacos were incredibly dry. It gave the impression that it isn’t an item often ordered because it tasted like it was thrown together. The ground beef seemed like a hamburger patty that was overcooked and poorly chopped up and thrown into the shell. The meat had good flavor but SO DRY (see photos). The pico and lettuce did nothing to add moisture and there was no sour cream but I don’t even think those things could save it. Perhaps they were having an off night. They offer complimentary hot sauces and there is one that is spicy and offers a tropical note like mango or pineapple and that was a pleasant surprise.
We also did not receive the grilled corn, but instead received a chicken sandwich w fries. Perhaps they had no corn or it was a mistake. Nice gesture, but it would have been nice to see if we wanted another app instead.
Would try them again, but the tacos need a lot of work.
Seem to have their regular patrons/friends flooding their pages with great reviews (where no actual discussion of the food is occurring) after I have posted mine in an attempt to keep the avg. high. The avg. will stay high if the food is good. Period.

Beautiful ⭐️ We have been to quite a few of these cantinas in Astoria but this one is great! Food fresh. Waitress nice. Drinks delicious. Atmosphere chill and relaxed. A good Mix of people, looking for good drinks and great food. The bartender makes great frozen drinks. Automatic 18% gratuity that we got at the other three cantina we visited in the past few weeks was NOT automatically applied here! This is the Place is a great place to eat, whether you’re beginning or ending your night. It was a welcome change from the average.

Went there mid week at lunch, and the food was fantastic! The service was awesome, and music was on point. Good place to eat brunch and to hang out with your friends. The divorced enchiladas were great and came with a fair portion of rice and beans. The best part was that i left feeling good, not bloated or heavy after such a meal. Fair price for a good meal. Definitely recommend.
