Doesn’t look like much but the food is great! We stopped for lunch before going to the airport and I had the tamale. It was very good. My fiends loved their meals as well. I recommend checking them out.

But First Tacos! Jonesy’s is a local treasure. Best known for their phenomenal tacos and friendly staff, Monday’s special is the Hot Roast Beef Sandwich and is served with a heaping amount of potatoes and great gravy. Any item on the menu is great. Plenty of off/street parking. (the Hot Roast Beef picture in this review is the 1/2 portion).

Dear Jonesy’s Taco House on east locust street in Carter Lake, IA:
I am upset beyond belief.
2021 was to be the year I finally took the steps necessary to become my healthiest self. It was to be my; hot boy summer. Quickly did this summer turn into a bummer when I discovered the crispy, flaky, deep fried deliciousness of your puffy taco. The simple genius. A truly American work of art. In fact, I can think of nothing more American than to take an already delicious food and deep frying it to transform it into a golden crunchy portable meal fit for the gods… Upset indeed.
My body wants me to rate this with one star in hopes to save countless waistlines from the same tragic fate as mine. But my heart pleads with me to think rationally. My friends and family tell me that people can express will power. All people need is portion control, they say. To this I say, have you ever tried the Puffy Taco at Jonesy’s Taco House? Because if you had tried the Puffy Taco at Jonesy’s Taco House then you too would be searching for quarters in the back seat of your grandmother’s 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais in hopes to scrounge up enough change for Taco Tuesday.
Much against my better judgement, I have decided upon a rating of 5 stars. Every fiber of my being would love to save future generations from the same tragedy of forever saying “just one more taco, I swear” or “I can quit eating them at any time, I promise. F*** you dad, get off my back, I learned it from watching you!” But, the more selfish side of me fears if I do rate this restaurant one star, that I will forever be cut off from my supply. And that reality is one that I want no part of. Also, the hot sauce is really good.

Their steak fajitas are great!!! I asked for extra onions and they delivered. Very flavorful meat. Their Mexican rice is excellent and when mixed with guacamole is the perfect combination to accompany the steak.
Their queso is wonderful as well.
These guys are just a small place over the Carter Lake, but they have good food. Not to be confused with Joneys Corner in Council Bluffs. They do Mexican and American foods.

Nice staff, that’s the good. Against my better judgment, I ate this monstrosity. I was starving. I now wish my better judgment won that battle. The roast was the star, or was it the gravy that it was drowning in? However, I will say that this rating is based on this one meal. How they have almost 5 stars is a mystery, but I’m assuming that their food rating isn’t completely resting on this sandwich.

This was a bad experience rice was crunchy and the beans looked more like bean soup. This was supposed to be a half order of each rice and beans. I did not want much. The only food this place can cook and present decently is burgers and tacos, at a bar food level with no care.

We were just passing through the area and decided to stop for dinner, based on location and customer reviews. We were not disappointed. Prices and portions were more than fair. Flavor was very good, keeping in mind that this is a Tex-Mex spot. The service was EXCELLENT. Staff members went out of their way to make us feel welcome. I’d stop by again just because I felt like I was having dinner at a friend’s house. Thanks, Jonesy’s!
