The decoration is really nice, it is kept very dark which adds to the ambiance. Most of the food was really good but small portions for the price. The fried burrata was really good as an appetizer. I think everybody’s favorite was that and the ricotta agnolotti — but again the portion was quite small.

We also ordered the smoked potato sicilian square. It was good but quite oily and the bread was very thick. Wouldn’t order that again.

Bar Primi Penn District made our Christmas Eve dinner feel extra special from the moment we walked in. Even though we arrived early, they graciously seated us right away, and the service stayed attentive and thoughtful throughout the entire evening. We were recommended the hot toddies, which were perfect for the holiday vibe—comforting and well-balanced.

To start, we ordered two of the hot knots. Fair warning: they’re big, so ordering one at a time is the move. We paired them with the Sicilian Caesar salad, which was immaculately light and refreshing—an ideal way to kick things off. For drinks, the Sicilian Sour and the original frosé both stood out and complemented the meal beautifully.

For our mains, I thoroughly enjoyed the linguini with chicken arrosto—rich, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. My fiancé ordered the Vesuvio scampi and loved every bite. Everything came out at a great pace, letting us really enjoy each course.

A special shoutout to our server, Mauricio, who was incredibly attentive and made us feel genuinely cared for all night. Even the barback deserves recognition—super friendly and always on top of clearing dishes between courses. Overall, Bar Primi delivered a cozy, festive, and memorable Christmas Eve dinner we’ll definitely be talking about for a while.

Cannot rave about this restaurant enough. Enjoyed brunch with my girls here. The hostess was extremely accommodating with our big party. This spot has a pretty bar area, tables with small parties, and booth seating for bigger ones. The food here was delicious. Definitely order the pancakes. Bathrooms can be found downstairs along with a cute Photo Booth. Prices for food and drinks are more than fair.

Stopped by for dinner my waiter Sammy was amazing recommend the moscato which we got by the bottle it was amazing thought about ordering a second one it was soooo good. We had the calamari which was great. Sammy also recommended the hot girl salami pizza which was incredible. We didn’t know what to get to share he then recommended the pappardelle which we devoured. Great night, great ambiance, great experience and great service from Sammy. Will definitely be back again.

Bar Primi, Penn District is an absolute gem. The ambiance is warm, stylish, and inviting , perfect for both a relaxed evening and a special night out. Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared, and the quality truly makes it worth every penny.

The staff is incredibly kind, welcoming, and attentive, which made the whole experience even better. I’ve been to Italy, and I can honestly say the food here is just as amazing , authentic, comforting, and full of flavor.

Highly recommend this place for anyone who appreciates great food, great service, and a wonderful atmosphere.

Nice vibe, but disappointing experience overall

I was really looking forward to trying Bar Primi at Penn District — the space looks great, nice decor and a lively atmosphere. The appetizers were actually pretty good, with nice flavors, but the portions were quite small for the price.

Unfortunately, the main dishes were a letdown. Mine was way too salty, almost inedible, though the pizza was okay. Drinks were just so-so — nothing special.

What made the experience worse was the service. The staff kept pushing us to order more, which felt uncomfortable. We ordered plenty of appetizers, but they insisted everyone needed to order a main dish too. Once we ordered less than they suggested, they seemed to take less care of our table.

Overall, I liked the vibe and decor, but the food quality and service really need improvement. With so many great spots nearby, I expected more from Bar Primi.

We LOVED our night in Bar Primi! It was in the best location from us since we came in public transportation and the experience was a 10/10! The food options were all great! It’s not considered a family style restaurant but all the menu items looked so tasty my group of friends got a bit of everything to share and there was nothing we didn’t like! From the pasta (seafood and red sauce) to the appetizers (hot rolls, cesar salad, brussel sprouts, etc) to the dessert (strawberry shortcake but extremely elevated!) this was a place we’ll think of for a while! Music was great volume, place was picture-esque! Loved the Photo Booth idea in the lower floor. Their birthday celebration was beautiful too. LOVED BAR PRIMI

Food was appetizing and venue is beautiful, a lot of attention has been put towards the interior design, making it easy for big and small groups. I had my birthday dinner here and they brought out a sparkler with the birthday dessert. Photobooth downstairs is a nice touch.

However, service leaves a lot to be desired. I know this restaurant gets busy, but we have had a situation where we waited more than 50 mins for one entree for a table of two, which is an outlier for Nyc wait times. I would say come here if you’re willing to wait.

Came with my 8 year old son & had such a life changing experience. The servers were amazing especially “Eellia” ( hope i spelled it right) she was great with my son. The atmosphere is unbeatable, such soothing way to mellow your day. Big thanks to the mangers Christian and Trish, for me they brought professionalism to whole new level and really set the tone for a great experience for anyone to feel welcome

Ps. Wish I had tooken more pictures but I was too caught up in the moment

The atmosphere at the restaurant was extremely loud, which made it difficult to have a conversation with the people at my table. The food itself was decent, though the sauces lacked much flavor. We ordered the Hot Knots, Spaghetti Pomodoro, Burrata Pockets, and the Sicilian Caesar.

We arrived around 10:15 for our 10:30 reservation, but still ended up waiting nearly 30 minutes before being seated. We later learned the restaurant closes at 11pm. To their credit, we didn’t feel rushed to order or pushed to hurry through our meal, which we appreciated. However, once our food was delivered, we didn’t see our server again until we flagged him down for the check. It was clear he was busy prepping his section for closing.

Overall, the experience had some positives, but the noise level, long wait despite a reservation, and limited service toward the end of the night made the visit less enjoyable than expected.
