We also ordered the smoked potato sicilian square. It was good but quite oily and the bread was very thick. Wouldn’t order that again.
To start, we ordered two of the hot knots. Fair warning: they’re big, so ordering one at a time is the move. We paired them with the Sicilian Caesar salad, which was immaculately light and refreshing—an ideal way to kick things off. For drinks, the Sicilian Sour and the original frosé both stood out and complemented the meal beautifully.
For our mains, I thoroughly enjoyed the linguini with chicken arrosto—rich, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. My fiancé ordered the Vesuvio scampi and loved every bite. Everything came out at a great pace, letting us really enjoy each course.
A special shoutout to our server, Mauricio, who was incredibly attentive and made us feel genuinely cared for all night. Even the barback deserves recognition—super friendly and always on top of clearing dishes between courses. Overall, Bar Primi delivered a cozy, festive, and memorable Christmas Eve dinner we’ll definitely be talking about for a while.

The staff is incredibly kind, welcoming, and attentive, which made the whole experience even better. I’ve been to Italy, and I can honestly say the food here is just as amazing , authentic, comforting, and full of flavor.
Highly recommend this place for anyone who appreciates great food, great service, and a wonderful atmosphere.
I was really looking forward to trying Bar Primi at Penn District — the space looks great, nice decor and a lively atmosphere. The appetizers were actually pretty good, with nice flavors, but the portions were quite small for the price.
Unfortunately, the main dishes were a letdown. Mine was way too salty, almost inedible, though the pizza was okay. Drinks were just so-so — nothing special.
What made the experience worse was the service. The staff kept pushing us to order more, which felt uncomfortable. We ordered plenty of appetizers, but they insisted everyone needed to order a main dish too. Once we ordered less than they suggested, they seemed to take less care of our table.
Overall, I liked the vibe and decor, but the food quality and service really need improvement. With so many great spots nearby, I expected more from Bar Primi.
However, service leaves a lot to be desired. I know this restaurant gets busy, but we have had a situation where we waited more than 50 mins for one entree for a table of two, which is an outlier for Nyc wait times. I would say come here if you’re willing to wait.
Ps. Wish I had tooken more pictures but I was too caught up in the moment
We arrived around 10:15 for our 10:30 reservation, but still ended up waiting nearly 30 minutes before being seated. We later learned the restaurant closes at 11pm. To their credit, we didn’t feel rushed to order or pushed to hurry through our meal, which we appreciated. However, once our food was delivered, we didn’t see our server again until we flagged him down for the check. It was clear he was busy prepping his section for closing.
Overall, the experience had some positives, but the noise level, long wait despite a reservation, and limited service toward the end of the night made the visit less enjoyable than expected.
