Love the homestyle feeling. Food was good, needs some improvement. Server was great.
Had the shrimp tacos, the cabbage should have been blanched and/or add more sauce. It made the tacos dry. Otherwise flavor was great!
The bread pudding was cold in the center, taste was on point.
The sauce to the fried tomatoes was good just barely warm. Fried tomatoes were delicious!

I can’t recommend this place enough! The drinks, the food, the family of service, the atmosphere.. it’s all top tier! Anything fried is a good choice, the hamburger is one of the best ones I’ve had in Mississippi, and don’t get me started on the seafood and steak! Go check them out.

Stopped on a Saturday- so no buffet. But, the burger was good.
The waiter we had was super fun and nice.

My family of eleven went to eat and celebrate my 60 birthday. My steak was burned and baked potato was Lupe warm. All of the food wa ordered was just awful. No wonder they only had three other customers there on a Saturday Night. I’m from North Mississippi and didn’t know the area. Left there and went to Sumrall and saw John L’s was packed. Just choose the wrong restaurant..

Yummy southern food just down old highway 11.
Great happy hour deals and live music on Friday nights at 7 pm.
We had the fried shrimp and crap cakes, the sweet potato fries were sweet and collard greens came outta some ol memaws kitchen ! There were so many servers so we got enough attention and everything we wanted, except coffe with our bread pudding. I needed an extra shot with my happy hour margarita, not a fan of blended margaritas.
The dinning room has the best old Mississippi yellow pine timbered floors, we love this area of the pine belt because the old wood floors and walls a real treasure!

We ate dinner with friends between 6:00 and 6:30 PM on Thursday night mid December. The hostess asked if we were with the Christmas Party (red flag). We were seated in a reasonable amount of time. The waitress took our drink orders, which all had to be prepared from the bar. It took a long time to get our drink order. We ordered starters and entrees, but gumbo was not available. While taking our food orders, the waitress mentioned how busy the staff had been all day. The starters were served, but there were no utensils or napkins on the table. One person in our party tracked down the waitress to ask for utensils. Someone finally delivered utensils – no napkins. The next time the waitress passed by the table, we requested napkins which were delivered quickly. Eventually our entrees were served, but the sides were incorrect and cold for some of the orders. The food was okay, nothing outstanding. When the waitress delivered the checks, she mentioned how busy they were. A person in our party disagreed with the waitress and stated the obvious situation – the restaurant is under staffed. When a restaurant is under staffed, there will certainly be reviews like this one. That responsibility does not fall on the shoulders of the staff or the customer.
If I were going to eat here again, my first question would be ” Are you hosting a party”. If the answer is yes, I would seek a different restaurant in hope of reasonable service.
The Old Magnolia Bar and Grill website mentions upscale dining in a casual atmosphere. I did not observe anything upscale in this establishment.

Crab cakes were house made and delicious! Salmon was cooked to perfection! Husband’s buffet meal was perfect. Homemade coconut cake was like Mama used to make. Our waitress was so attentive! We were driving through Sumrall and this place was such a pleasant surprise and diversion! Highly recommend.

Truly, I would like to rate 4.5. Onion ring appetizer stole the show. Cobb Salad was good (missing cheese), added grilled chicken that was perfectly cooked. My husband’s steak was good, what one would expect for the price. Pomegranate martini was tasty, service was good. I am pleased to see the venue has been renovated. The structure has always had such a quaint charm. It seems as though previous owners were hesitant to remove some of the original, wooden features, truly it needed to be done to give it an update. Thankfully the charm is still there. The mantel or fireplace was a great addition. Live music was perfect, great ambiance.

Alright, listen up, Old Magnolia Bar and Grill. I’ve taken a look at your operation, and I’m going to be direct with you because I respect you too much to sugarcoat it.

You have a tremendous foundation. The atmosphere is there, the vibes are good, and you have a loyal staff that wants to succeed. That’s more than many places have. But I see the cracks in the foundation, and if you don’t fix them, they will break you.

Your waitstaff is nervous for a reason. That’s a symptom of a poorly organized bar and kitchen. The fact that the food is “a lot of work” tells me your menu is inefficient and your kitchen flow is broken. You’re wasting motion, wasting time, and wasting potential profits.

This isn’t about anger; it’s about accountability. You’re on the path to failure, but you haven’t arrived yet. Don’t wait for a crisis. Don’t wait for John Taffer to show up with a camera crew because you’re out of money and options.

Right now, you have a choice. Get your systems in order, streamline that menu, train your staff with purpose, and start running this like a business. Do it now, while you still can.

Fix your fundamentals, and this place can be an undeniable success.
