Came here with my family for the first time (mine). Probably the best bento box I have ever had and their service is also top notch! Highly recommended and worth it

I did a ChatGPT search for sushi in Roanoke and it came up with a few results, with this being the most popular, so we had to try it.

We ordered Edamame, an Avocado Salad and Gyoza for an appetizer. All were your standard appetizers.

For rolls, we ordered the Rainbow, California, Volcano and Angry Lovers.

The Angry Lovers roll is lobster and cucumber topped with avocado. The lobster was extremely fishy and was not good at all.

The other rolls were just average.

My niece had never had sushi before and ordered the Rainbow roll and enjoyed it, so that was a plus, however, there are definitely better places.

Everything here just seemed like it had a very low standard.

The server seemed almost annoyed that they needed to serve us.

Extremely disappointed in the suggestion by ChatGPT.

I had the Shumai (not pictured), Cowboy Lovers Roll, Spicy Tuna Lovers Roll, and hot Sake. The Shumai (shrimp dumpling) was the best thing!! Both rolls were mid. Service was a little off putting so I don’t think I’ll return.

I’ve lived all over and the only other place I had sushi this good was Hawaii. The quality is exceptional. We always order the boat and the cuts are always melt-in-your-mouth. Whenever I order omakase, I’m never disappointed. Even my 20-something sons recognize the superior quality and they don’t have terribly discerning palates. They also love the serene and peaceful atmosphere. Even when multiple tables are seated, it retains a quiet ambience. Ben Gui is a reason to live in Roanoke. It’s pure pleasure for the senses on all levels and not something I ever expected to find when returning to my home region, southern Appalachia.

I had an absolutely fantastic experience at Ben Gui Sushi in Roanoke! Despite being on a budget, I decided to treat myself, and it was worth every penny. The uni was incredibly fresh—straight off the truck, as Ben himself shared with me—and it was a delight to indulge in such high-quality sushi. I even went a little over budget to try something new, and I’m so glad I did.

One thing that really stood out to me is that he talked to almost every customer and knew their story. It reminded me of my childhood sushi hang out with my family, where everybody knew me, and was always waiting for me to come back even through my college days, despite it changing hands, someone on the staff always knew who I was. Brought back great childhood nostalgia especially since my mom passed recently.

Ben personally served me and made the experience even more memorable with great conversation. His passion for sushi and his customers really shines through, and it’s rare to find such a warm and welcoming atmosphere. I enjoyed getting to know about his personal story and how he came from New York to Roanoake and I can’t wait to hear more about it. The food was impeccable, and the care in preparation was evident in every bite. Thank you Ben ❤️

Even though it’s a bit of a drive from Blacksburg, I already can’t wait to go back. I’ve already started telling my partner about the amazing sushi. I found in the area. This place is a true gem, and I’m so grateful for both the food and the company. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area—or even if you’re not! It’s definitely worth the trip.

Everything about Ben Gui is what you want in a sushi restaurant. The food is amazing, truly a Roanoke hidden gem. I especially like how you can tell the chef what you like and they’ll come up with something for you on the spot. The atmosphere is well-built and takes you out of a strip mall and over to Japan. The service is very friendly, they definitely want to welcome you in and make your experience with them as enjoyable as possible.

Absolutely. A hidden treasure as I am not from roanoke originally and looked up sushi. My husband was feeling pretty bummed after a medical diagnosis, and I brought him here to cheer him up. Not only did he have a phenomenal time with the best sushi, but the owner was very engaging and kind. I’d give them a 100 stars if I could!

This my first time writing a review for a restaurant. Tbh their sushi was good but I don’t recommend their fired rice or any other plate. it was more than bad. I asked if I can get something else instead , or get my money back. She said no. A Big no
They give a bottle of water if you asked for water and it’s 1.50$ each.
Their prices have changed and I was charged over 20$ extra this place is a nightmare. If I can give it a 0 star I would have. I wish I knew that lady’s name that acted like she doesn’t understand what I’m saying but I think she is a regular there.

This is my favorite sushi restaurant of all time. I have been to other cities and tried sushi all along the East Coast. Nothing compares. The owners are amazing and love all of their customers and remember them as well.

Probably best sushi in the Roanoke area. The house soup was delicious and very filling, however wouldn’t recommend the dumplings somewhat disappointed with them. The sushi was excellent and especially the iCrunchy roll was amazing.
