Pricing: Prices are higher than seen online but the owner told us on the phone before we ordered. There’s also a sign on the door stating their prices are adjusted. For 4 meals and one appetizer, it was $95.
Open Hours/Wait time: Their hours are limited as the owner told us he and his wife live in Chicago. They do this more as a side gig and told us when we picked up our food they had have trouble since COVID finding more staff so now it’s just them. We didn’t mind much have to wait a little long than typical take out places (45 minutes) and it was worth the wait! The time estimate was accurate so our food wasn’t cold or not ready when we got there.
Food: Some of the best, if not the best, Thai food I’ve had in the Midwest! I went to Thailand almost 13 years ago and this meal took me right back. I had the chicken lemongrass, my boyfriend ordered ginger stir fry with chicken, parents had the vegetable delight with chicken and pad Thai with chicken plus we did an order of egg rolls (3 in the order). Everything was very fresh and the portions sizes were generous, so most of us had leftovers. My boyfriend had never had Thai food and he really enjoyed his meal! Only thing to note with the food is most of it had a lot of broth. We didn’t mind but we did need to be careful when we first started eating.
Service/atmosphere: The owner was extremely kind! All of the reviews here talking but how awesome he is are accurate. We weren’t in there very long but the owner was very kind and friendly!
Overall, Ban Thai is now one of my new favorite places in the Saint Joseph/Benton Harbor area! We found the prices and wait time absolutely worth it since it was all made fresh and had enough for at least two meals. The food was amazing, and the owner’s friendliness and honesty was the just the icing on the cake! If you are in the area, this is a must try!
Service: 5/5 (Awesome!)
Atmosphere: 5/5 (Lovely environment)
What a wonderful visit to Ban Thai in St. Joseph, Michigan! The food was truly a delight. Although they don’t offer dine-in service at the moment, the takeout was excellent and held up beautifully during the journey home. I’m so glad I had the chance to enjoy their offerings!
The meal was remarkable! The curry rice and spring rolls were bursting with flavor. As someone who loves curry, I was thrilled with how well this dish came together. A squeeze of lime really took it to the next level!
The service was also commendable. The owner was extremely friendly and took the time to guide us through the menu, making for a pleasant and engaging conversation.
The atmosphere, although takeout only, felt warm and inviting. Just a heads-up, make sure to catch them during their limited hours of operation. It’s a charming restaurant worth visiting.
Overall, I had a fantastic experience at Ban Thai! The food was crafted with care and tasted exceptional. They truly excel in Thai cuisine! If you’re in the area, it’s a must-try.
The food was phenomenal. We tried their red curry, Massuman curry and their Pad See Ew. So good!
– very quality, savory, delicious food. This is not your greasy take out back home, this is an indulgence of Thai cuisine
– the gentleman who handled “front of house” is a delight, sweet man that made us feel very welcomed
– have to go back to the food, we got the Pad Kee Mao with Beef and the Curry Fried Rice with Shrimp. Highly recommend, we will be coming back next time in town
Thank you, Jimmy, for always making us feel like family!
