They didn’t have any wagyu instock. For an appetizer we always have to try calamari. Fantastic. For dinner we did our version of surf and turf. We orders the delmonico and the seafood platter, mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. Best of both worlds. Steak was cooked perfectly. We didn’t like the mustard sauce on the brussel sprouts. We would go again!
My boyfriend and I loved everything we ordered! His favorite were the lobster bites on the appetizers! Followed by the most flavorful French onion I’ve ever had.
I really am impressed with the cleanliness of this restaurant from the entrance to table setting to the woman’s bathroom. Everything was in tip top shape. Really feel at home! Will be back again!
My boyfriend and I went to 801 Chophouse in Minneapolis to celebrate our two-year anniversary, and sadly, it was one of the worst dining experiences we’ve ever had, especially for a restaurant that markets itself as upscale.
We waited over a hour just to order our food, which I could understand if the restaurant was busy, but it really wasn’t. When our food first arrived, everything was freezing cold. The butter wouldn’t even melt on my baked potato, and the inside was completely raw. The broccolini and Brussels sprouts had great flavor, but even they were served ice cold. I ordered a medium-well filet mignon, but the steak was charred on the outside and completely raw in the middle, literally red and cool to the touch. We sent everything back except the steak at first, but after cutting into it again, I had to send that back too because it was so undercooked it was basically mooing.
After we returned the food, the staff began bringing out the dishes one by one, and every time something was set down, they made passive-aggressive comments like, “Is it hot enough now?” or “Is this to okay now ?” It made the situation uncomfortable and honestly felt unprofessional.
While we were waiting, a man who we later found out was the manager walked past our table, staring at us without saying anything. We even heard our waitress tell him “we’ll see you back soon” and they both chuckled. When he eventually brought out the “new” steak, he asked me to cut into it in front of him. Before I could even give him an answer, he walked away. The steak was burnt to the point that the outside was like scraping burnt toast, and somehow the inside was still inconsistent because they had reconstructed my original steak by taking the cut pieces and throwing them back on the grill. So different parts of the steak had different internal temperatures because the pieces were different sizes. For a $90 filet, that is completely unacceptable. When I brought up my concerns about the steak he informed me that the policy there isn’t to make a new steak if it’s simply undercooked and if I would have asked for a new one they would have made me one. If that was the case why would you ask me to cut open my steak if it was the same one that was previously cut.
The broccolini that came back out was also burnt to a crisp. When we asked to speak to the manager at the end of the meal, he approached us rolling his eyes, throwing his hands up, and talking to us in a rude, condescending tone. He proceeded to berate me to the point I started crying in the restaurant. He insisted the steak “wasn’t burnt” and the broccolini “should be charged,” even after I showed him pictures of the before and after. He dismissed our concerns entirely and initially offered no apology. We suspect we received this kind of treatment because we are young (both in early 20’s), but who knows. I left the restaurant in tears on what was supposed to be a special night.
The only bright side is after 10-15 mins of being berated the manager offered to take the bill. Even though we insisted we pay.
Needless to say, we will never be returning. If you’re looking for a restaurant to celebrate a special occasion, I’d highly recommend The Butcher’s Tale, Red Rabbit, or Ruth’s Chris instead, you’ll get better service, better food, and a far more respectful experience.
I never intended on making a post because I was sure our experience would be amazing below are the couple pictures I have. The big bunch of broccolini is our original order. The other two pics are what they brought out to replace the first order.
Another spectacular meal! And our server Santiago was smart, informative, full of great recommendations, kind and funny. My father in law was already planning our next visit before he finished his entree. We will definitely be back again and again! Truly a hidden gem in downtown Minneapolis!
The atmosphere was incredible. Our waiter, Patrick gave us the history of the place and it was very interesting.
We ordered drinks, an Old Fashioned and an Indigo Violet. He brought out some warm Sour Dough for the table and then brought out a meat cart. He showed us all the different cuts of meat that were available and talked about how long they were aged.
We ordered prosciutto wrapped Scallops for an appetizer and they did not disappoint. The sides that they offer are ‘family style’ and meant to be shared (they also offer half sizes). My husband ordered the filet with mushroom ragout with a side of scalloped potatoes and I got the 1/2 lb lobster tail. We shared the entire meal. It was cooked perfectly. We also got dessert which was apple bread pudding. So delicious.
It was a wonderful experience and if we ever come back, this is a do not miss for us!
Our waiter may have been one of if not the best we ever had (Andrew?) He went over their specialty cuts, convinced us to get the bone in Filet (amazing! Worth the price!), made sure we didn’t over order (the sides are huge), and was just over all awesome.
If we ever make it back I hope to go again!
