While visiting Springfield, MO this weekend, I stopped into a new spot called Shabu Hot Pot — and I’m glad I did. This is an AYCE conveyor-belt style restaurant, but focused entirely on Hot Pot, which makes the experience really fun and unique.
We were seated quickly and greeted by our server, Makayla, who took our drink order and explained how everything works. For $29.99, you get 90 minutes and one meat choice. I went with the ribeye and beef broth. The conveyor belt brings a steady rotation of noodles, cabbage, bok choy, mushrooms, fish, and plenty of other add-ins. Just drop what you want into the hot pot and you’re eating in under five minutes.
Makayla checked on us often and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. I’ve been to several Hot Pot places before, but never one with a conveyor-belt setup like this — definitely a cool experience.
If you’re in the Springfield area, make sure to stop by and give them a try.

We were the first ones in on a Saturday morning, the environment is nice, simple, and was quiet. The server was very nice and professional, even admitting a mistake and making it right later on. The food however, was not quiet worth the price. For 2 with a drink each and one side of meat we ended up paying over $80 after tipping. This was our first time going and for us, itl be our last most likely. This is a good place to go if your wanting to pay for an experiance, not for the food. The experiance was memorable. The food was decent and I really enjoyed theyre fresh veggies. But, alas.. theyre food is very bland in the soup. No salt or pepper available, no spices other than green onions and garlic on the sauce bar. We left full as we had to ensure we clean our plates so as not to be charged for leaving food on our plates. They do charge for that.
Overall, come here for a nice and unique date, not to pay for food.

Solid ramen and soup broth options to serve as the base. A combination of quality meat selections and an endless conveyor belt system of add on items to complete your meal. Highly recommend the ribeye and pork shoulder as two different meat selections. Tilapia and shrimp were two favorite off the conveyor. It’s a true food experience

I’m going to be honest… this review begins with me vomiting before I even made it to my car. Why? Because I mixed beef broth with a bunch of mystery seafood. You could tell it was seafood, just had no idea what animal it came from. Labels would’ve been nice… but curiosity won.
The good first: this place is visually awesome. The little conveyor belt of ingredients is mesmerizing, clean, and easily the star of the show. Staff and manager? Friendly… except for the part where the pricing made me feel swindled with a smile. Restaurant? Spotless.
Now the food.
Most of my food stayed floating sadly in the bland broth. The rest? Briefly relocated to their bathroom. My entire party shared the same thousand-yard stare — “not our thing” doesn’t cover it.
And here’s the real kicker: I came for LUNCH, expecting lunch prices. That day, they were serving DINNER only — and dinner pricing — all day. Sir. Ma’am. That is emotional trauma. A bait-and-switch with garnish. We’d already fought traffic, sat down, and bonded with the conveyor belt, so we stayed… like fools.
Final tally: Staff = great (with a side of mild financial betrayal), Manager = great, Clean = great, Vibes = cool, Food = -10, Pricing = highway robbery.
I won’t be returning. Neither will my party. If you go, bring anti-nausea meds, low expectations, and a very brave wallet.

I was so excited to try this restaurant, as hot pot is one of my favorite meals. Unfortunately, this restaurant did not deliver. The first red flag was the word “spicy” being crossed off the menu on their house soup offering. Whether or not this was intentional by the restaurant, the whole experience felt more like a cash grab than an enjoyable experience. I have never been to a hotpot restaurant before that has left me wondering if this is still my favorite food, but this place unfortunately left a lot to be desired. Their sauce bar had a random selection of “house sauces” and some jarred garlic, with no ginger or oyster sauce in sight. The soda tasted moldy, as if the soda taps had not been cleaned in ages. Their “spicy” house soup tasted like water with an afterthought of ramen seasoning tossed in. And the server was not very responsive to the the stack of empty plates (and drink cups) on the table.
I’ll be looking for other hotpot alternatives in the area, as this experience did not feel worth the calories, much less the standard hotpot pricing (without the typical hotpot experience).

We visited Shabu for our first hot pot experience. We loved the food and the rotating conveyer belt! Our server was not very helpful (or around much) but we overheard another table’s server so we knew what everything was and how to order/how best to cook things. The other staff seemed to be more present, so I wouldn’t judge our experience with the staff as their normal. We will definitely return. There were just 3 of us eating but tables looked like they were only tables for 4. Unsure how a party larger than 4 people would be seated together

I loved coming here, there were times I would go multiple times a week even! The GM is amazing! However service is very hit or miss. I went in today with my boyfriend and it started off good but once the server dropped our food off, he didn’t come back. Didn’t check to see how we were doing, refills or if the food was okay. I got up to ask for more water since his cup had been empty for about 5 mins. The GM saw me and got us the water and asked if we were good. The manager checked on us again and got us another meat while our server was still at the front on his phone. There were 2 other tables and 1 was a 2 top. So they weren’t busy. I’m very understanding but paying almost $70 for 2 meals and 1 drink and to not get much service from our server is a little upsetting. Normally at the end they ask if you want ice cream but he dropped the check off and never asked and didn’t ask when we paid. Seemed like he didn’t want to ask because we would be there a few mins longer to eat it. As much as I enjoy coming here I took a break coming and just started to come back but at this point it’s not worth the money to get poor service and ignored. Its unfortunate because they do have great servers and management but I can’t justify spending the money for a maybe we will get good service or maybe we get very poor service. Probably my last time coming here.

This place was amazing. The food rolling on the assembly line to put in your hot pot was an experience I never seen. The hot pot was so fun to put all the items in. It was delicious, fun, entertaining, and worth the experience. Mara our server was so kind and her energy was enthralling, I have never been served by such a genuinely happy waitress before. This is a gem of a place and so unique. Must TRY you won’t regret it the price was almost too good for a buffet.

This is a great new addition to the food scene in Springfield. The atmosphere was interesting and engaging. You order the broth and meat you want and cook the meat at your table. The cooking area is half griddle half soup pot. A continuous supply of noodles, vegetables, mushrooms, meats, and fully cooked appetizers pass by your table for you to add to your pot. It’s not inexpensive, but the experience is worth extra cost. I highly recommend this place.
