This place is situated in the marina that has seen better days. The waitress and the Chef were very personable and they have plans to renovate. We went on one of the icy cold days in the winter and the heat could not keep up. It could use some repainting, but if they are planning to renovate, I understand it.
We had loaded potato pancakes, which was an interesting take on a traditional dish. As I recall, it was topped with bacon, onions, and cheese. Potato pancakes were good with a classical taste, and probably would have been better without the topping. I am sure, however, that for most folks this iteration was better.
I had a wurst platter with four varieties. All of them were quite good. Probably some of the best german centric sausage that I’ve had recently.
The schnitzel was disappointing. It was dry and seemed to be deep-fried instead of pan fried. The spaetzle that accompanied was also unremarkable.
There is plenty of parking and we had no trouble finding it using Google maps.
For appetizers, we requested they go extra, extra spicy on an order of mussels, and the heat level was intense. Didn’t count the shells, but there must have been 3 dozen mussels, with sliced kielbasa, a rich, savory tomato-based broth, and a delicious loaf of bread. Loaded potato pancakes are extra crisp, and covered with sour cream, bacon, red onion, and Gruyere cheese, with a side of apple sauce.
For dinner, we had their Polish Cheesesteak, which is ground kielbasa, and served with their haus-made cheese sauce on a long roll. Indescribably good. Served with fries that were very crisp without having to ask for them being well-done.
Their B.O.T.W. Roast Beef is sliced sauerbraten, with Fontina cheese melted over it, and covered in ginger snap gravy, and it’s possibly the best sauerbraten I have ever eaten. The sauce is outstanding, and I wish that I had a gallon of it, right now.
Super friendly staff and delicious food. Chef came out and chatted us up a bit. Was really nice. Server was super attentive and friendly.
Started with the mac & cheese, husband had pork schnitzel and I had a cheesesteak that instead of steak they use chopped kielbasa! (It was salty and cheesy and absolutely delicious).
I plan on coming back again to try some more dishes.
Cash only but they do have an ATM inside.
Truly affordable waterfront dining featuring exceptional German fare overlooking the Rancocas Creek. The cuisine is traditional with high quality ingredients, expertly (real chef) prepared and such an outstanding value! It’s also a BYOB which is an added plus.
German “Mac & cheese” with spatzel delicious. Homemade perogies spot on. The German pancake appetizer is a must! The classic Sauerbraten was outstanding. The Pork schnitzel was perfection. The plank salmon tasty and simple.
But, the star selection was the smoked pork chop special with gruyere, ham and fried egg. Fantastic! Kudos to the chef.
Warm & friendly service with attention to detail.
Don’t be fooled by the humble “bric a brac” decor of the dining room (you don’t eat decor). The real atmosphere and character of this place is the beautiful view of the Rancocas. Although the Rancocas is not the Rhine, the quality of the food, view, value and service are well worth the trip! A unique and very pleasant dining experience.
Cash only.
We can’t wait to go back and try the rest of the menu and dessert!
