This is elegant oceanfront fine dining. Yes it’s expensive, but for us well worth the ambiance and terrific food and attentive service. For appetizers we had shrimp cocktail (one of the best), grilled focaccia bread (very delicious), and lobster tostadas (yummy). The Four Marlins house salad was fresh and very tasty. The Jumbo Prawns and Grilled Swordfish dinners were incredible. For dessert the Key Lime pie and berry cake hit the spot, as did the espressos and butterscotch martini.
Our server Ashley was very accommodating and at no extra cost gave us a couple of extra pieces of the focaccia bread. She also made sure water glasses stayed filled, and brought multiple samples of wine for us to try.
We had a wonderful evening and would definitely return the next time we vacation in Key West. Our most expensive dinner ($400 excluding tip) but worth it for what we got. Free valet parking is available so no need to Uber here.
But ironically, the suggestion to dine at Four Marlin’s actually came from a nice man “Ricky” in Concierge rather than any of that. Ricky told us to try the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich, which he claimed to be the best on the island. My fiancée and I were a bit skeptical — not gonna lie, but his passion in speaking about the sandwich inspired us to try it. We went to the restaurant at around 8:30pm and noticed it was not on the menu, we kindly asked our server if we could order it and after speaking with the Chef she said it was ok.
Well, this thing is BIG! It’s stacked and it’s beautiful. The Brioche bun has a beautiful cut or design on the top, and then you get this delicious hand-breaded buttermilk chicken that could make a grown man cry tears of joy at the sight of it. The first bite sent me almost off my chair. It was solid. It was tasty. It was the best. It wasn’t touristy food, this could easily be the best chicken sandwich in Key West. Myself being from New Jersey and quite the foodie, this sandwich could easily hang with the best in our state. My suggestion to management is to add this sandwich to the menu ASAP. Maybe include a ChickFilA style one? You have something here with this.
I also want to mention on its own the French fries which are hand-cut, great job doing this guys. We had an amazing dinner at Dorada’s 2 nights in a row but the last night at Dorada’s I was disappointed with the frozen shoe string fries that I got with my $26 burger.. I felt for the level of Dorada’s and Four Marlins it should absolutely be hand-cut, fresh French fries and Four Marlins delivered! I noticed Truffle fries as an option and want to recommend rather than Truffle Fries, instead doing a seasoned fry option using “Old Bay”, it’s a crab seasoning.
My final recommendation is to add atleast 2 more appetizers to your menu non-fish related. We would have ordered an appetizer but wasn’t a fan of what was offered, also $28 starting point on an appetizer is a buzz kill. If you can hit the sweet spot of $17 it will improve and more people are likely to try.
Overall I highly recommend Four Marlins for this crispy chicken sandwich, which I believe to be the best crispy chicken sandwich in Key West. Great job Chef and thank you to the two Ricky’s!
The lobster mac and cheese ($36) was also underwhelming and honestly tasted like it had simply been reheated.
Since we were celebrating a birthday, I asked in advance if the restaurant offers birthday desserts. Our server said yes and even offered options, so I selected one and asked if it could be brought out as a surprise once we finished our main course. After our food arrived, however, our server disappeared for about 15 minutes. I eventually had to ask the bartender to help find her. When she returned, she first asked how many to-go boxes we needed and then asked the birthday guest directly if he wanted dessert – which unfortunately ruined the surprise we had already discussed.
In the end the dessert came with a candle, which was nice, but the moment had already passed.
Finally, when the check arrived, there was a $21 service charge added to our check for just two people. I understand that restaurants have different policies, but it felt odd given the level of service we experienced.
I work in the service industry myself, so I understand that everyone can have a busy or difficult shift. However, the lack of attention and communication throughout the night made the experience disappointing, especially for a birthday celebration.
Right on the beach ️
Food was ok, my order needed to be redone, so a bit of waiting
My husband asked for ketchup but never got it!
Otherwise pretty good!
