We went on a Saturday night and they had live music, it was a solo player and he was wonderful. We ordered a salad, drinks, grilled cheese and beef stroganoff, all of which was fabulous. Is it expensive, yes it can be but it’s also an evening out as an experience.
We’ve been loyal fans of their sister restaurant next door for years …it’s our go-to for breakfast, brunch, or dinner … so trying Sidecar felt like the perfect next step. And wow… what a great choice! The cocktails were excellent. They made my Old Fashioned exactly the way I like it, and my partner loved their gin and tonics. The servers were absolutely wonderful (I feel so bad I forgot their names!) and made the evening feel extra special.
The vibe is warm, cozy, and stylish … perfect for a relaxed night out. Honestly, it was such a sweet way to kick off my birthday celebrations. We’ll definitely be back again soon!
Be sure to make a reservation, they have limited space and it accentuates the atmosphere nicely. Tastefully decorated as well.
From the moment we sat down to our departure, we were treated First-class
The stuff was super friendly and polite.
This location I didn’t know existed, it’s a must visit.
The food and drinks are First-Class.
Culinary at its best. Outstanding flavors. Food heaven even though it’s small menu.
The cocktails are impressive.
Came on a Whisky day tasting which I did not about.
Hidden gem in Old Town.
My wife and I were celebrating our 35th anniversary and treated ourselves. We shared a shrimp cocktail appetizer (5 huge shrimp with tasty sauces), and we split two entres, the most expensive item on the menu, A5 Japanese Kagoshima Filet Mignon, and the pork belly special. Both dishes were extraordinarily tastey, cooked to perfection, with sauces and sides that were carefully designed to complement each other. The food was comparable to the Michelin star restaurants we’ve dined at.
The cocktail designer has skills. I thoroughly enjoyed the Black Manhattan. (This is the best Manhattan I’ve ever had. I’m an Old Fashioned guy, but they converted me with this concoction). My wife raved about The Lotus.
The dark ambiance is enhanced by gold flatware, gold toned metal tables, a beautifully lighted bar back, and 20s-era black and white photos. While it was interesting, the sopgistication fell and little short compared to the food quality, excellent service, and bill. The restaurant is small. Half the patrons dine at the bar. As we were leaving at 8 pm on a Friday night, a two-piece jazz band started their set in a crowded little corner.
Dress casual. Make reservations. If you dine early enough, you’ll get to pick between a table or the bar.
I had a reservation for a Sunday evening with a few friends to chat and drink cocktails. Sidecar’s posted closing time for Sundays is 10pm, but we started to feel unwelcome long before that.
I’ve been to Sidecar several times before and have usually enjoyed the bartender and discovering new drinks. However, this visit it seemed like we were more of a hassle for the disinterested staff. The drinks were fine, but for a bar that wants to be known for curating cocktails, it seemed pretty run-of-the-mill.
I made a reservation for 6pm to give us plenty of time before their closing of 10pm, but by 8:15 the staff were dragging tables and putting up chairs in preparation for closing. By 8:45, the music was turned off and our bill was paid. We had ordered two rounds of drinks and plenty of food to share. We may have had another drink as we chatted, but it was fine. By 9:15, the overhead lights were turned on and the staff began cleaning the bar. As someone with years of restaurant experience, I understand there are closing duties and the staff want to go home. By all means, have last call. But starting to encourage customers to leave nearly two hours before closing seems excessive. We weren’t the only guests in the bar. It was awkward and made us feel unwelcome. Perhaps the bar should alter their closing times to allow for the staff to begin their closing duties earlier in the night.
I think Sidecar has run its course as being a cool place to check out and get drinks. For as expensive as it is, I would suggest finding some where better to spend your money.
We were seated at the bar which gave us a fantastic view of the bartenders making their gorgeous cocktails…smoke bubbles on top of drinks was new to us and we loved the ride.
Both of our drinks were superb and delivered by a bartender with a whole lot of deep knowledge of what they offered. My wife had a tequila and I had The Last Word Cocktail.
All of the good we were brought was also delicious…not a dud in the bunch with decent enough options for vegetarians including the Almonds with Truffles and Parmesan, the Bibs Lettuce Salada, and the super-yummy elevated palate grilled cheese. The menu may change seasonally, so hopefully there will always be a few things for vegetarians.
We really loved it in here…everything…the atmosphere, the food, the drinks. We look forward to going back.
To start off the host was not inviting, not happy, very stiff and dry, almost felt like we were imposing on her by being in her space. Not one smile.. Sadly that was the demeanor of the ENTIRE STAFF. Waitress had the same energy, no patience and no effort in recommending drinks or specialties. The bar tender glared even from afar, super weird that such a quant little place would have such a bitter looking staff.. Furthermore I couldn’t concentrate on much other than the smell of sanitizer solution that lingered in there air. The host would storm by with her spray bottle dousing every table. Highly recommend sanitizing solution be kept in the back end and only bringing towels out minus the spray with such a strong odor. Towards the end of our visit the bartender came by the table trying to collect the check about 3x to be exact. Like they needed to rush us out the door. Overall we felt drinks were just ok for the price. Our drinks averaged $23-$28each. The atmosphere should’ve felt more inviting and lively but really felt drabby and off. Don’t recommend if you want the “speakeasy”experience.. The small room you wait in is tiny and crammed. Even with reservations you don’t get seated on time.
