I visited this spot on Sunday to celebrate a friend’s birthday, and I’ve had it on my DC bucket list for a while. The vibe is very cool — beautiful décor, fun lighting, and an overall trendy atmosphere that makes it perfect for a night out.
However, the experience was a bit mixed. The staff was friendly and polite, but clearly overwhelmed — maybe it was the Labor Day weekend rush, maybe short staffing — they seemed forgetful and distracted. The food itself was okay. The sushi was good but not the best I’ve had in DC, and the drinks were decent.
What really caught us off guard was the tiny visitor we had at the table — a mouse! It definitely startled us, especially those in our group who have had traumatic experiences with rodents. They were nice enough to offer free shots, whether for the delay or as a goodwill gesture for the mouse incident, which we appreciated.
This place has been on my list for a long time, and I had even thought of celebrating my own birthday here. After this visit, it’s probably no longer my first choice for a special occasion. The décor and vibe are great, and I might come back for a casual hangout with friends — but it’s no longer a “must-do” destination for me.

Tokyo Pearl has definitely became one of my goto spots in DC. During the week they have Happy Hour from 4pm-10pm, you can’t beat that. It’s like a restaurant/lounge in one and it gets pretty live on the weekends if you want to get out of the house and have some fun. They usually have live DJs which adds on to the atmosphere here. Tokyo Pearl has great aesthetics and the ambiance can get up there. If you like Japanese inspired foods then this would be the place. My favorites are the Espresso martini and Tokyo Pearl Punch. Ask for Dennis, Alex, and Siri, they have definitely taken care of me whenever I come there. I highly recommend people to check this spot out.

My wife and I had drinks/snacks here recently and really enjoyed the vibe. Shoutout to the bartender who made my drink, it was a heavy pour lol. Shrimp tempura and momo chicken were portioned perfectly for a happy hour situation. The hanging basket chairs were a nice touch

Met a girlfriend for Happy hour, Great happy hour selections and good pricing. The spicy tuna roll did not taste fresh and looks like it had good coloring added to it. I did not eat it all after the first 2 rolls!!! Chicken dumplings was plated beautifully and i feel like you can’t screw that up. My best friend had the seaweed salad and fried cauliflower and a salmon roll and it was all mediocre. They were definitely shortstaffed and took forever to bring out our drinks. Overall, the atmosphere was five stars, but the food and service needed major room for improvement.

A great spot for happy hour deals. I ordered the bok choy and sushi off of the $7 menu and both were simple yet tasty. I also ordered the veggie bao which was a bit disappointing because it was just peppers and onions but I liked the spicy mayo with it. The back patio was cute and has a roof that opens up.
The service was the least enjoyable part of the trip. The server was not friendly and kept policing our table, coming back to every 5 minutes. We felt rushed and pushed out toward the end.

I’m kind of late posting this but….
Tokyo Pearl is a lovely gem located in DuPont Circle. The decor is beautiful and my best friend and I enjoyed their food/drink happy hour out on the patio. I’m a sucker for color and could not get enough of the atmosphere. Our server was really nice and we chatted it up with the staff before we left. An Awesome spot especially for the spring and summer. I’ll stop by and check out the place at night as well soon enough. Cheers!!!!

Went to this bar since it seemed cool on the outside however once actually stepping in the “security” or doorman demanded a $10 entrance fee to enter. After entering the atmosphere was nowhere to be found and the place barely had any people when we entered and once more people did come in they were not charged. So I guess they pick and choose who pays an entrance fee. After confirming with one of my friends they also said that they have never paid an entrance fee. On top of that we were charged almost $60 dollars for 3 shots with an automatic gratuity. They have a pole on a table that is supposedly for people to use but as soon as anyone wants to get on it they ask you to get off. Overall i definitely don’t recommend coming it seems like they just want to take advantage of you if you’re new to the area or they don’t know you.

My partner and I dined in and our bill came up to around $165 . The issue we had was that our server never mentioned gratuity was already included. We weren’t shown an itemized breakdown of the food we order, so we couldn’t see if the tip was included, all he did was read it out loud, and because we weren’t informed that the tip was already included we left an additional 15 dollar tip, thinking gratuity wasn’t included, we paid and we left but it would’ve been helpful for the server to fully communicate when gratuity is included and provide and itemized receipt. Transparency would prevent situations like these to happen and not disclosing it, feels misleading and unprofessional.

What an awesome fun place!! If you want a fun happy hour spot this is your jam! The drinks were strong but delicious. The sushi was spot on. The service was fun and silly. Great place all around.

Loved the vibes here!! The food and drinks are great. I wouldn’t say a lot of options for vegetarians but enough to get your belly full. The service and server were amazing to us. Would definitely recommend this place for everyone.
