Enjoyed a lovely meal here. Real treat. First time having Steak Frites, got the Onglet without a sauce and I’m glad I did, first time having ‘jus de viande’ (reduced meat juices) which was incredible. Simple but complemented the steak so well. Their bread was a real treat as well.

The service was friendly and flawless. Really set the tone for the meal being greeted by a warm welcoming host.

Not the cheapest but I’m happy to pay for quality food and service. Next time I’m down Oxford I’ll be sure to go back.

The service of this restaurant is utterly jaw-dropping terrible. Was there to celebrate my wife’s birthday and brought a back-vintage Chateaux Margaux and paid 25GBP for corkage. Not only did the waiter broke the cork, but when I said I will handle it, they refused. They took the bottle to the back, and voila, the cork went into the bottle. They started decanting the wine when I told them not to, and at this point it was just infuriating. I got up twice to give instructions which were just ignored.

I have never come across such disrespect from a restaurant that is on the Michelin guide. Poor wine service was just a tip of the iceberg. There were also NO APOLOGIES given and they still charged us for the corkage and service fees after all of this. Just completely ruined the mood for the occasion. Well done.

The decorations and interiors at Pompette in Summertown are genuinely lovely, but the food and service were underwhelming and disappointing. We ordered the three course prix fixe and it just wasn’t good in taste or value.

The dessert with baguette, 24-month Comté and caramelised apple came as cold sliced bread, which felt lazy. The bone-in ribeye for 2-3 had a huge amount of fat on it, especially for a dish with a £60 supplement. The purple sprouting broccoli with stracciatella tasted like it had come straight out of the fridge, not fresh at all.

Service was also poor. We had to work hard to get anyone’s attention throughout the meal, which really took away from the experience.

Beautiful restaurant, but that’s where the praise ends. Not worth it.

A beautiful restaurant with beautiful, helpful and kind staff. The atmosphere of the restaurant is warm and soft. Music was subtle and elegant. Their menu for a Thursday night was delicious. Their menu is unique and tasty. Drinks were brilliant. Loved the atmosphere, and gentleness from the staff was spectacular, they weren’t in top of you but always there at the right time. Thank you for helping make a beautiful evening with my mom and I. I will be back with my Love for a romantic evening.

The starters are outstanding and delicious but the main dish is just fair. Was a bit let down by the main dish as the portion is very small and doesn’t taste as good as the starter.

“We greatly enjoyed our meal at Pompette on a busy Saturday evening. Despite the bustle, service was responsive, efficient and friendly. Noise levels are manageable, tables not indecently closely spaced. The classic fish soup is obviously a staple and deservedly so; smooth but rich and substantial with the classic garnishes of rouille, cheese and croutons. A bowl of braised pigs trotters with snails was like a finely-chopped stew, not too liquid and deeply savoury. A slight pity that the main ingredients weren’t visibly obvious but this was the only minor disappointment of the evening. Chalkstream trout seems to be a regular on the menu in varying presentations. This evening, a Riesling sauce, choucroute and steamed potatoes. Beautifully French, balanced just on the right side of decadence. Poison du jour was a handsome sautéed hake fillet on slow-cooked fennel and a faintly agridolce sauce. The contrasts worked beautifully. Though the dessert list was tempting we opted for the cheese, as a demanding test of any French restaurant. A classic trio of Comté, Saint-Nectaire and a creamy blue (Bleu d’Auvergne?) were perfect – right temperature, right maturity. A big plus is the very interesting selection of wines by the glass, including some fine wines through Coravin. Sadly we live some way from Oxford. If we were closer we would probably be regulars – the whole experience encourages a return.

Excellent. We had the cheese as starter and the onglet with fries as main. The cheeses were delicious and a good portion, they came with fresh bread. The meat was fantastic, tasty and perfectly cooked. The fries were also really good. We accompanied everything by a glass of house red. The bill came to just over £100. The service was friendly and attentive. The restaurant is beautifully decorated. I’d definitely go back.

My wife and I came here for lunch today for our wedding anniversary and it was absolutely lovely. The food was delicious (sea bream with butter beans and chorizo especially nice), staff super-friendly, and the meal itself was leasurely and well-paced. Really, really nice, we will be back!

We were particularly impressed that as someone who is gluten/soy intolerant, my wife could eat almost everything on the menu.

Thank you for a lovely meal!
