Cosy, chic bistro offering stylish, modern, eclectic cuisine made with local seafood and a gin list.

The food was very good, although our overall expectations were slightly higher given the restaurant’s Michelin mentioned. We ordered two 2-course menus. The halibut was excellent, while the spinach lacked depth of flavour, similar to the sherry caramel in the artichoke dish, which felt rather flat. In contrast, the King Oyster mushroom dish with other ingredients was outstanding.
Service was excellent throughout the evening. Unfortunately, the restaurant did not have oysters available that day, which was disappointing. It may be worth calling ahead to check availability of key items on the menu before visiting and make a booking in advance. Thank you)

Intimate and tastefully decorated restaurant on Correction Wynd, overlooked by the iconic St Nicholas Kirk. Their curated lunch and dinner menus showcase local, seasonal produce – including fish, meat and vegetarian options. To start, we got the smoked salmon with feta, peach and mint and the ricotta gnocchi. The gnocchi was tasty, but the delicate smoked salmon was overpowered by its yoghurt sauce drizzle. For mains we had the halibut and the bavette steak. Both were perfectly cooked – good sear on the fish; medium-rare steak. The home made tartare sauce was delicious. For dessert we opted for the Basque cheesecake with strawberry sorbet and the coconut parfait with chocolate custard. Every dish was beautifully presented. The cocktails were lovely too, especially the hazelnut espresso martini. We anticipated relatively small portions, such is fine dining, but we left with full bellies! Service was friendly and polite, if a little reserved. Although it was a quiet midweek evening when we visited, I would generally recommend booking in advance. We really enjoyed our experience at Moonfish Café and look forward to returning one day to try a different seasonal menu!

We live in London but make sure we visit Moonfish every time we are in Aberdeen, and the latest visit on the 30th of January didn’t disappoint. We had the 4 course set dinner menu priced reasonably at at £62 per head and every dish was great, in particular the venison which was served with a superb meaty ‘samosa’. Service is attentive and not overbearing. My only slight negative comment is that the restaurant can be a little bit chilly at times. Highly recommended!

Absolutely lovely restaurant. The food was excellent, with experimental flavour and texture combinations which worked very well. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere was very pleasant. I’d definitely suggest making a reservation beforehand, as the space is limited.

Maybe the reviews by others and plenty of coverage online hyped it up abit for me but I found myself wanting more. The restaurant was really popular and for good reason. Great decor, very welcoming service and amazing presentations. Maybe I was expecting too much but the fish wasn’t the star in the dishes. Still well executed nonetheless but maybe overshadowed by the ensemble?
Would have to return to try again when the menu changes so I’m still keeping my hopes up.

Excellent food, Excellent Service, Excellent menu choice overall. I would highly recommend this quaint little restaurant opposite the church. Staff are polite and courteous which in this modern society we live in has become almost impossible to find. It’s refreshing to find this type of service. We spent just over an hour here. To what I believe has the 100% potential to be Michelin star quality very soon indeed. The quality of food you taste on each and every mouthful is a delight on the taste Presentation is excellent as seen in photos. And this is what’s special about this place. It ticks all the boxes in the itinerary. Bravo Moonfish Cafe. Great food.

Another delightful lunch here at Moonfish. The food is just as good, and the menu is as interesting as ever. The staff are great, easily and enthusiastically answer questions about the food and take an interest in what we think. Food arrives beautifully presented.
This is a popular small Bistro and making a reservation is recommended. The lunchtime helpings are just right for a midday meal.
Thanks to everyone at Moonfish, and a special thanks to the chef for creating such a great menu! Well done

We went in for the 4 course taster menu through itison. £75 well spent. The food was fantastic, each course was superb, the paired cocktail was nice too. The staff were lovely, very friendly and attentive but no over bearing. The only down side was it could have been warmer in the restaurant…. that said it was probably about 0°C outside so its understandable

Magnificent. One of my favourite restaurants in Aberdeen. I had preconceptions before going that the food would be tiny portions and I hoped it wouldn’t be overrated.
The menu was well thought out, fresh and cooked impeccably. I believe the owner was a finalist on MasterChef and the quality of cooking shows.
I’m already looking forward to the next time I come here!
Edit: Another trip, this time we had complications with our party being unable to attend and Moonfish were excellent at working around us. The food as ever was exquisite and I still think this is the best restaurant in Aberdeen .
