Inconsistent, but has potential

I’ve been to El Grullense No. 2 a couple times now, and I really wanted to love this spot. The first time was about 7 months ago on a Monday, during their $1.50 taco special (al pastor, carnitas, or chicken—all day). The flavor was on point back then, and I even saved this place as a hidden gem for the next time I was in town.

Unfortunately, this visit didn’t live up to the memory. Same $1.50 Monday deal, but the tacos were overly salty, oily, and lacking the depth of flavor they had last time. The meat was still well-seasoned, but everything felt off — like it was rushed or just not cooked with the same care.

That said, the kitchen is always moving fast, the service is quick, and the pricing is hard to beat. This place has serious potential — they just need to dial in the consistency and focus a bit more on quality control.

Still worth a visit if you’re nearby, but fingers crossed you catch them on a good day.

Overall experience on July 21 2025:
– Today’s tacos were overly salty and greasy. The meat tasted heavy and one-dimensional, without the vibrance I remembered.
– The tortillas flavor didn’t land like before.
– Tacos were oily —feels like quality control has slipped.
– Best-case scenario is inconsistent: what was a hidden gem last time turned into a mediocre experience this time.

Taqueria El Grullense No. 2 did not disappoint! This was my first time eating here, and it came highly recommended by a coworker for lunch. I ordered a grilled chicken burrito with extra chicken, sour cream, and cheese, plus a small portion of rice inside. I also asked for the burrito to be grilled after it was prepared and cut in half perfect choice.
The burrito was flavorful, well-seasoned, and very satisfying. The grilled finish gave it a nice texture, and the extra chicken made it filling without being overwhelming. Everything tasted fresh and made with care.
I’m glad I took the recommendation—this spot is definitely worth a visit, and I’ll be back again. ✨

Good tacos. Were they good enough for me to remember this place. Not so sure. Definitely better than most taco trucks.

The chips were awful.

Prices are decent.

I ordered the carne asada fries, they were pretty great! This is the correct ratio of meat to fries, and it had a unique smokey flavor, also one of the red salas was fire. It needs guacamole or avocado, as all asada fries do – also, it is pricey, around $16 for this, and that’s without guac or avocado – really a 4.5 due to those things, but worth rounding up, I’ll be back.

Visiting my wife’s cousin in Lodi we stopped by El Grullense for lunch on a Friday. Crazy delicious Mexican food. My wife and I live in Mexico so we know authentic food. The fish taco and enchilada’s were great. Cold Modelo and a piña Jarritos. Highly recommend this small gem!

The salsa is a compliment to their tacos as well as other dishes they serve. It is one of the few good salsas known in Lodi. However, their presentation is mediocre at best and their establishment feels dirty when inside. I handed the cashier a twenty dollar bill and the bill accidentally fell from my hand into the onions and cilantro that sits next to the register. The kitchen is visibly unkept and the customer service is amateurish. Decent food, dirty place.

These place is a little deceiving, I thought it was a full restaurant. To my surprise and delight, it’s a taco stand.
The staff are super friendly and care on a conversation with you. The menu is tacos and burritos.
The tacos are fantastic. They were super flavorful and tortillas were cooked perfectly.
I’ll definitely be back

My first time ever to try a quesabirria! Tortilla is crispy, meat tender and juicy, the perfect amount of cheese to have the taste and satisfaction of stretchyness, salsa gaved it a good touch and same for the cilantro and onion it was not overwhelming and finally the CONSOME! This was the finishing touch, delicious, flavorful, and I promise this will definitely help for a hangover !!!

I am very happy that my boyfriend has brought me to his favorite taco spot. Thank you love ☺️
