Recommended warmly by friends who spend a lot of time in Palm Springs. My husband, my parents, and I all loved the food (the Jägerschnitzel was succulent!) as well as the superb cocktails (the Au Pear and Bee’s Knees, especially). Patio seating was roomy, comfy, and gave a great sense of the surrounding neighborhood. Daniel, the host, was very understanding about our being slightly delayed by traffic, and he was pleasant and funny throughout. The one blemish was not enough to ruin a tasty and wonderful night for my family, but it must be said that Mark fell down badly on the job as our waiter — which was true for every other table near us, with all of us expressing bewilderment to each other that Mark was so inattentive, so forgetful (he forgot our drink orders, forgot to read us the dinner specials, and forgot our dessert order), and pretty clearly uninterested in the job. That was too bad, since he made a friendly and charming first impression before totally bailing on our whole area. The host eventually had to be recruited to take our orders. But truly: the food was extraordinary, even to people who’ve lived in Germany and know what a great Schnitzel is supposed to taste like. The meal will cost you, but you know that going in, and it was all well worth the price!

This is a great example of a well managed restaurant. I wish there were more like this! It starts immediately when you walk in and notice the pleasantly elegant yet understated decor. The tables, the glass and silverware are all beautiful. The service is prompt and exceptionally professional. There is an interesting original cocktail menu and a decent wine selection. The menu is concise and creative, balancing traditional offerings with new ideas. Our table tried a variety of the offerings from the salmon to the schnitzel. It was all good! The smaller size menu still has enough variety for everyone to find something they like. The desert options are also quite tasty. If you’re looking for elegant European food in a lovely setting you must attend! Reservations recommended.

Johannes has the trendy Palm Springs atmosphere one would expect when visiting the downtown area. We were seated near the kitchen, not in the dining room, and that may have skewed my review a bit. I felt that the service was on point, the food was okay, but it was very noisy where we were seated. All in all, I felt it was overpriced.
I had the caper lemon schnitzel which was fair, but because of the price point, it wasn’t wonderful. There is no way it should be a $44 dinner plate.
Probably not a restaurant I would choose to return to with all the other options in town.

Excellent place and food, I had the Schnitzel and loved it. So far the best Schnitzel I have had in a Restaurant in Southern California, besides making my own Schnitzel

Our first time here. The place was well decorated with all the right touches. It was a small place but felt big because of character and ambience. The waitress was not nice and ignored us to the point even the bus boy noticed and started to help by asking her to go to the table. When our food arrived it was overcooked most likely sitting under heat lamps too long. The price was overpriced and we would not go back again.

I enjoy the majority of the restaurants in Palm Springs but have been looking forward to visiting Johannes for some time. I finally had some friends from out of town and we were able to get reservations.
Johannes is by far a step above the other restaurants and worth every penny! The service is spot on. The server explained in detail a delightful variety of specials for the day along with information about any dish we asked about. She memorized everything we ordered and came back with everything perfect!
The food was incredibly pleasing to the eye, stunningly full portions, that were equally incredibly delicious!
We shared escargot for an appetizer and tiramisu for dessert. Both excellent!
I will be frequenting Johannes much more often, even if it’s just me eating at the bar.
All the food is impeccable. There is an extensive schnitzel menu that has only compared to my favorite restaurants in Munich. You won’t be disappointed with this place!!

Reservation process was simple. Called left message, got a prompt call back shortly after 3pm.
Great wine and cocktail menu.
Started with the meatballs in curry sauce and the seafood cocktail.
Main course, I had the Pork Medallions My Way with apples, pees, gnocchi and a small side of spetzel.
Service was good, food was good. Would definitely come back.

Maybe it just wasn’t our place. The pitch from the server made me think we were about to eat michelin star quality food. It started out great with the appetizer but my main dish was raw in the center. I like things on the undercooked side so normally this wouldn’t have bothered me but this was too raw. It was plated beautifully but the the flavor was just average in my opinion. Add in the fact it was very undercooked and I would say we won’t be back. Shame, I really wanted to like this place.
I should also mention my wife ordered a salad with salmon which turned out to be raw salmon. Perfectly acceptable if you know that but the server neglected to mention it was raw. Ask questions or you might get something other than what you’re expecting.

Hands down the best restaurant in Palm Springs. The service was friendly yet efficient, the mussels were the best I’ve ever had in my life, and the peppercorn schnitzel is a must. Will return. Definitely add this to your list!

Lyle is the star of this restaurant. His service is stellar. Hubby enjoyed the schnitzel – crisp and juicy. My pork chop was slightly undercooked, mashed potato and broccoli – delicious.
Busy on a Wednesday evening, we arrived without reservation was told we only had 75 minutes before the table needed to be turned. Would have ordered more, just to hang with Lyle. Maybe another time.
