Cooking is a lot of fun but sometimes it’s nice to take a drive out of town and try something new. I met the owner awhile back and he said, “If you love brisket you should go to Montpelier and try out my bar and grill Twisted Trough.” I ordered the Rodeo Melt – brisket, bacon, fried onions, cheese, and BBQ sauce with a twisted potato. Mom ordered the Cubano Melt – smoked pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, and Dijon mustard. There was a crowd of bikers here on their last stop of a run. Great place, awesome staff, really enjoyed the food. Definitely coming back. I think I’ll nickname this place The Twisted Trayf haha.

A hidden gem of yum! Very good food (smoked chicken, brisket). I personally did not care for the twisted potato, but if you like crispy, chip-like potatoes, it’s right up your alley. However, don’t fear… they’ve got delicious thick cut steak fries that soothe any french fry lover’s heart. The servers/bartenders were prompt and engaging with the customers and make a great Bloody Mary, which is a win in my book. I greatly appreciated the free pool to occupy our time until the food came. Only suggestion I have is to bring in something that can keep kids occupied (i.e. Connect 4).

A 15 minute drive from Jamestown lands you at the TT in Montpelier, North Dakota. The smell of pit hits you before you even open the door, and what’s inside the Trough smells amazing. For this area of ND the barbecue is 100% legit, the service was awesome, and the place was cleaner than my own dining room. When you’re done eating the video slots generating charitable contributions to some lucky non-profit will be more than enough to help you digest the best barbecue you’ve had out in a long time.

Sometimes I crave a good burger, and they don’t have one on the menu. Other than that, the food is really good and they have done so much to improve the atmosphere. I never regret going here!
