Honey Im Home completely broke that pattern for me.
First visit, place is still new and already hopping. Long cozy room, brick arch into the kitchen, big screens with relaxing travel scenes and a mix of locals and tourists. Their HIM branding is clever and the tan mugs have a fun beachy almost Hawaiian tiki vibe that fits Pismo.
I ordered the biscuits and gravy and the Chile Verde omelet with country potatoes. The biscuits were buried in sausage gravy, not a skimpy drizzle. Mix of regular sausage and hot sausage, rich and peppery so I never touched the salt, pepper or hot sauce. The Chile Verde omelet came stuffed with meat and cheese, sauce and cheese spilling out, and the potatoes had color and seasoning instead of being pale and bland.
My wife got the Mans Best Friend omelet with crispy hash browns. Same deal. Packed with filling, hash browns crisp outside and soft inside. She usually does not like gravy at all, tried a bite of mine and actually said it was good. That alone says a lot.
Service was excellent. Coffee kept coming, food came out hot, and Ed who I believe is the owner has great positive energy and makes you feel welcome.
Portions, flavor, freshness, temperature and customer service were all spot on. I almost always find something to nitpick. Here I honestly dont.
Pismo is a tourist town and a lot of spots are more about the scene than the food. Honey Im Home has both. Feels good to be there and the food is legit comfort food done right. If you are looking for breakfast or brunch that tastes like real down home cooking in the middle of the tourist strip, this is it. Strong recommendation.
The waitress was on it. She was training a new waitress. They were both on top of our coffee and tea refills. They checked on us, but not too pushy.
This place is a great new addition to Pismo. Come try it for yourself. Remember to always have an open mind when trying somewhere new.
3rd, I have tried numerous places in CA with biscuits and gravy and not one of them could holdup to the standards I have. This is not even close to an exaggeration.
A friend of mine and I, decided to finally try this hyped up restaurant that claimed to have the best biscuits and gravy. I, also, challenged them on IG. Pretty much doubting they can make “true” B and G, for reasons previously stated.
We arrived to an empty restaurant, which to be honest, we loved.
We ordered the B and SG, fried catfish with onion rings, and the chicken fried steak with home fries and over med eggs. In order: fried catfish, B and SG, and then chicken fried steak.
Catfish was friend and seasoned perfectly, I personally loved the onion rings. If you’re going to do an ASMR, those are the ones to get.
B and SG, it was a close 1st, but the biscuit was burnt. The flavor of the gravy, to me, was perfection. It had spice to it and the sausage, which is their own personal made, was delicious! It tasted like Jimmy Dean, with a little less sweet and sage taste.
The chicken fried steak was a VERY close 2nd. Actually, for me, it tied. You can tell immediately that it was fresh not frozen. Steak was cut perfectly for this dish. The flour was seasoned, the steak was battered perfectly, and the white gravy on top was good but did not steal the show from the main star.
I personally don’t like home fries but we did order them extra crispy and they came out cooked normally. Eggs over medium, were cooked over medium.
You can tell when food around here ( I live in Santa Maria now) is made with love. The food at HONEY IM HOME, was made with love.
I did tell the owner Thani would love for them to expand to SM because I would eat there so often. I hope, if they do expand, they hire the right staff that will do their food justice and not just for a paycheck.
Oh and I kinda hope they bring fried green tomatoes with a remoulade sauce and crab meat add on. But that’s just a wish. *wink wink*
