It has been awhile since I last dined in to a Taqueria like Taquerias Veracruz, and what can I say? Their authenticity in Mexican food is spot-on. Not only that, but whenever I come in, I feel right at home. Their staff are attentive, friendly, and sweet. Highly recommended.

They add an automatic 20% gratuity charge for dining in without telling you. They charge you for water even though water is a human right. The servers also pressure you into ordering add-ons to your food and do not inform you that you need to pay additional for those add-ons.
Rather than feeling like a restaurant, this place operates like a shady used car dealership.
The food is ok but throughout the process of ordering food and of receiving small portions for expensive and stingy service, I would not recommend this place. Come to Houston for great Mexican food instead

The restaurant’s food was not the issue, but the service. I unfortunately had a bad experience when the bill came and I had asked what the “service fee” when I saw it was applied to my bill. The waitress we had did not answer my question took back the bill and came back charging me an additional “service fee” she stated it was something SHE HAD TO ADD. Please keep in mind it was dine in. When I asked for a manager they refused to give me information.

I’d bought takeout before and the tacos were dry and not as full as I expected. I went there just last week with my boyfriend and didn’t expect it to be different but a few things were of concern. One, the food was slightly overpriced, probably because of the location downtown. But two dollars extra per plate is a little excessive. I ordered a side of rice and beans and they were each at 4$, for one portion. Even if I didn’t check the price before hand, it is still excessive. Come time to leave, they added a service fee of 10%, a fee for a takeout container and a fee for a takeout bag. The server didn’t warn about any of these fees before accepting our request and I didn’t check because its custom that they are complimentary. I understand business is difficult and that gentrification is squeezing out service. But I also felt duped. Because not only was the food overpriced but the service cost a lot, without clarity. I won’t be returning. There are other taco spots that are more honest and whose food is just as yummy.
