Riding motorcycles from Colorado to see the area with a friend on his bike. Was my second time there. Went for lunch and had a great green chili stew. Guests were friendly to us even though we were kind of road worn. Food was excellent but the lady owner is what made the place.owner cook and tour guide all in one. She decided I should have a slice of pie. Of course I did. Asked her what kind and she said it started to be blueberry but she ran out so she added raspberries and it became mixed berries. As I was complimenting it to Gary my friend she said she thought I needed ice cream. A man never refuses a woman holding an ice cream scoop. Really good hour on the side of the road. Best wishes

We only had pie. It looked impressive and homemade. The crust is better than most. Most of you would love it, but since I make homemade pie, the crust could be flakier (is that a word?). The apple filing was to sweet for my taste, but I don’t like sweets. The people were very nice. Cash only place.

This place is the definition of hidden gem! It’s really easy to just drive past, but do not do it! It is a 3rd generation family owned restaurant, making recipes handed down for over 70 years, and full of local arts and crafts for sale. My wife and I split the combo platter, which came with a taco, a chile relleno, two enchiladas, and rice and beans, and we had chips and salsa to munch on while we were waiting for our food. To call this the best Mexican food I’ve had is not an understatement. Even the chips and salsa were way better than any I have had in a restaurant before.

All of that food only cost $28, and we drove away very satisfied with everything about this wonderful place. If you’re lucky you’ll be able to hear the stories behind the local arts on their walls as well!

The first time I stopped by, was on a long distance bike tour. The owner was kind enough to offer a little cabin for the night. A few years later, in a vehicle this time, I stopped again. Once again, the host/cook/owner was kind and courteous. Since I was camping in the area, I made El Paisano a breakfast or lunch stop. If only I lived closer!!

I wish I could like this place more. I love the mom and pop hole in the walls. Not good if you require dietary accommodations.

The good: fantastic food and lovely people. The atmosphere is very homey. Sometimes native jewelry, etc for sale.

The meh: slow service. They run out of things throughout the day (get here early).

The bad: it’s really hard to recommend this place if you require dietary accommodations. I can’t have dairy among other things and they did not realize that cheese has dairy. Cash only.

I ordered large burrito which was good, but they charged me $1.50 for 1 oz of taco salsa! I won’t be back, sorry

This is home style cooking. I met the owner who was the waitress and cook on that day. She offered to cook me a meal that wasn’t on the menu. Sounded good and I said yes. Wow! What a superb meal that was! She made it all from scratch. And her hospitality…very much valued. I will take this route from Texas to the west coast just to stop here…and on the way back also. Thank you.

Stopped in for lunch yesterday and what a pleasant surprise! Ms Esther has been cooking every single thing from scratch herself for 50 plus years. Her husband is her “helper” he is a sweetheart too. I have never seen such a clean place ever. There are a lot of Mexican deco hung on the walls. We actually tried to find dust. Nope none. You have to go thru a small part of the kitchen to get to the restroom. Spotless and nothing out of place. Her food is like I said made from scratch every single thing. If there isn’t anything on the small menu for you then she will make you something. My husband had a burger and fries hand cut fries and fresh beef. Will be going back every time we are in Ruidoso (short drive up the mountain)
