I went for the recommendation- Carbonnade Flamande. Good portion of food. The meat is really soft and tender but can become a bit sickly after. The atmosphere and service was great.

Visited the place after reading the good reviews. Very good ambience, friendly staff, it was a bit pricey but the food is good. We ordered mixed finger food, seafood platter with 3 varieties of fish, grilled octopus platter and 3 drinks. Instead of the seafood platter we received a dorade fish menu ordered by a gentleman sitting on another table beside us. Since we had started eating, we did not complain but at the end we were charged for the seafood platter. Luckily i had taken photos of the food before eating, so we cleared the situation with the waiters and they gave us another bill without any discussions.

This was our first time in Dunkirk, and Le Protocole stood out as the only restaurant in town without a break in service hours — which was a big plus for us. We ended up visiting twice: once for a late lunch, and later for coffee and dessert.
Our first visit was excellent, which is why we returned. The mussels were decent, and the male waiter was very friendly and welcoming. It left a great impression.
However, our second visit unfortunately did not match the first. After walking around town, we came back for a coffee and some waffles. A young waitress with red hair in a ponytail saw us but didn’t greet or seat us. Instead, she served a French couple who arrived after us. When she finally acknowledged us, she placed us at a table right next to the kitchen door — a spot that had a strong, unpleasant smell, almost like a toilet. The restaurant was nearly empty, so the choice of table felt intentional and unkind.
It’s disappointing to say this, but the experience felt discriminatory. It’s a shame, because our first visit was so positive. The inconsistency in service left us with mixed feelings.

Arrived fairly late after 10pm and was lucky they still seated us.
The set meal deal here for 29€ is a great deal.
The steak and fries was good but the desserts were really good especially the brioche one with ice cream.
Service was also friendly and spoke good English.
The decor of the restaurant is nice with tv screens covered in painting frames and chandeliers. The location also overlooks the canals which should be nice during the day.
Highly recommend if you look for a nice French restaurant for a bit late dinner.

Food was simply horrible. They have such a beautiful location – ok the Design of the place is ostentatious, trying too hard to be upscale, but – this restaurant COULD be top notch. Yet, they really managed to ruin the food and made it a miserable experience, especially when the bill comes.
Risotto that came with an overly fried fish was so salty it was inedible and tasted like old fat. No need to talk about consistency. 30 euros. The fries that came with a traditional meat dish were obviously pre-frozen and then sadly died in fat. How is it possible to ruin them so badly?
Three stars because the waiters were nice and service not as slow as the other reviews said. And they gave a discount because of the inedible parts of the dishes.

We visited on 9th July as had a few hours free waiting for ferry back to Dover. Amazing service provided by the staff, seated as quickly and great atmosphere. Would highly recommend if in the area. The views are amazing.

This place is AMAZING! From the moment you walk into this restaurant, you feel great! The decor is outstanding. All the staff were so very attentive. The food was perfect! I what was basically fries topped with shredded chicken and melted cheese. It was delicious (you need to be a French fries and cheese fan) the desserts are amazing and very big portions! So x1 dessert for two people is really enough. Our waiter Sébastien was amazing! Very very good at his job. Thank you for making us feel very welcome. We will be back again.

The food was really really nice. We especially like the mussels though and one of the Chardonnay wines – which wasn’t even the most expensive one but we loved it. After our starters and mains we had no space for desert.
The only thing was that the service was a bit rushed, they were kind and smiling but kept asking if we were ready to order or done with our food. It was a Friday night though.

I recently dined at Le aprotocole and I was thoroughly impressed. The portions are generous, and the food is incredibly delicious. Each dish was packed with flavor and perfectly cooked.
The atmosphere is welcoming, and the staff are friendly and attentive. It’s clear that they put a lot of care into their food and service.
I highly recommend le Protocole for anyone looking for a satisfying meal with great value for the portion sizes. I will definitely be returning.
