It was super busy when we went, but the server was really nice and the wait time (longer than normal obviously) was actually shorter than I thought it would be. We played I-Spy while we waited, and the atmosphere in the restaurant is quite nice. They’ve got some plants around and cool plates and stuff.
The bathroom was also very clean and nice. I didn’t take a picture, but the toilet and sink were clean and shiny, there were plenty of wall pole things for disabled people, there was an automatic soap dispenser and an automatic paper towel dispenser, and there was a baby changing station. And also a small trash next to the toilet as well as the one by the sink. (Family bathrooms, not gendered).
Rolled sushi, signature rolls with sauces and crunchy bits, and deep fried rolls, they have the works. The menu has something for everyone. The spicy tuna roll and banzai roll is my absolute favorite and are must haves.
A little on the pricey side for sushi, but you certainly get what you pay for.
While waiting, we watched two separate white couples walk in without reservations. The first was told it was reservation-only — but within seconds, the hostess suddenly “found” a table for them. The second couple was told there were no tables but was offered seats at the bar — an option that was never presented to us.
The only clear difference between us and them was that we’re Hispanic.
The food is genuinely good, which makes this harder to write. But being treated differently in such an obvious way left a bitter taste that no sushi can cover. I hope the restaurant reflects on how policies are applied — consistently and fairly — to everyone.
I had the curried Japanese potato pancakes that tasted pretty good. I’ll be back to try the vegetable ones that the server said were at least as good, if not better. I also had only the 2nd California Roll in my life, so I’m not much of a judge there, but I thought it was pretty darned good, too – and I don’t like crab. The photo is after I’d already eaten 2 or 3 pieces.
I had a beer with my happy hour “dinner” and then another one as I stayed to soak up the relaxing, scenic atmosphere. Both were tasty lagers I’d never had before, a Sapporo (sp?) and the next one on their menu. They were just the right size and temp, and I’d drink them again, since I’m a fan of lagers. The server was very attentive and explained the menu w/o making me feel like the 60 year-old rookie I am.
I spent about $20 + tip for everything, and, as mentioned, I’ll be back.
