Bar set up style; Staff is super friendly and the ambiance is both entertaining and inviting. (Plus immaculate private access to restrooms!) Breading on Chicken was reminicent of fish and chips (very light breading on high quality chicken) which simply means that the dry rubs dont stick as well, lowering your flavor exposure. Got the Nashville, (considered to be thier mid-to higher heat) and while the flavor was a delight, my tolerance level would put this at a low heat index (San Diego Daves Hot Chicken: mild for possible point of reference). The cost is about what you’d expect in Kona ($30 for one split order w/ an additional side and one drink). Side of potato salad was solid, I definitely needed to add my own salt and pepper to bring out the flavors a bit more.

Ordered the 3 piece and deluxe sandwich. They nailed the waffle fries, but the chicken severely lacked flavor (did Southern and sweet Hawaiian). For how good overall chicken is in Hawaii, this was a step above Jolibee (Jolibee being the worst and Aiea Bowl being the best). Also as a warning, Willie’s is PROUD of their chicken. 2 entrees and 2 fountain drinks were $50 (for reference Foosackly’s back home we dine for $22-$24 in FL, Willie’s should have been in the low $40 range). Portions are generous so a family could split the 3 piece meal between 2 people but honestly try somewhere else. I have no issue spending $50 for 2 if you hand me the best meal I’ve had. This was far from it.

This was a nice find. We already had eaten a couple of times at Kona brewpub (great place!) this trip so thought we would give Willie’s a try.
We both had the tenders (one with tots and the other with Mac & cheese). They were out quickly and were tasty. We got ‘Nashville hot’ which was flavorful, but we might step up a heat level next time.

If you’re in the mood for some fried chicken among the Hawaiian palm trees, this is the place to check out. We sat outside and listened to some live music among the cool breeze. Good place to chill after a long day of sightseeing. Check it out!

This place is clean with great service. We were there during the main dinner hour and they were getting people in and out. Chicken was delicious. They need to update the scale of how hot you want your chicken. I ordered middle of the road for hotness and it had no heat to it. Chicken was still good quality and a great atmosphere. I would go back.

Impulse decision to get fried chicken from my dad. Got the sweet hawaiin tender combo which came with waffle fries, bread and pickle. House made sauce is out of this world, creamy, savory and paired well with the chicken and fries. I loved the fried chicken! It was fried in a way where it didn’t feel too heavy like usual fried chicken and the slight kick was everything.

I wanted so badly to love Willie’s Hot Chicken. The reviews looked good, the atmosphere is great, the staff was friendly and efficient. Even the Dr. Pepper tasted great! But both my wife and I thought that the Nashville Hot chicken (breast quarter) that I ordered had very little flavor. There was a touch of heat, but it was bland, no matter how I tried to dress it up with the bbq sauce I got, or the ranch she got with her meal. She got the Sweet Hawaiian and it was much more flavorful. Her sidewinder fries were also really good, with just the right amount of salt, compared to my waffle fries which seemed to have no salt. I think with all the positive reviews this place has, that I just somehow got a bad batch, because the restaurant was busy and everyone seemed to be having a good time.

Choices are simple. Choose your cut of chicken, level of heat, sauce, and a side. Got Nashville hot leg/thigh and it was perfect amount of heat for my pallete. Dark meat was cooked perfectly, so juicy. Side of beans was fantastic! Tasty, full of flavor, with little shredded chicken in there. Wasn’t greasy, and I didn’t walk away feeling stuffed.
Decor and ambiance were fantastic. Live music (they were awesome by the way!), wide open restaurant, lots of color and flair. Chicken art everywhere!
We’ll definitely be back.

Lovely vibe. Very casual, hang out kind of place. They have tables outside and there was live music when we ate there which made it even better. The chicken was delicious and tender and the cashier advised us right on the spicy sauces and how to best order to try as many as we could. We ended up ordering 3 different kinds and enjoyed the tasting experience. The mac and cheese was also really good and pairs well with the chicken.
Fair prices and the service was super friendly. Will 10/10 come back and highly recommend eating here.
