This restaurant has become one of our favorite fine dining restaurants. The food is always delicious. The ingredients are sourced seasonally and locally. Lots of healthy vegetable ingredients.
It’s expensive, but it’s worth it. I’m glad it’s not super close to where we live, otherwise I’d want to eat there more often.

What a gem to have so close to home! From the moment we stepped through the door to the moment we headed back to the car, the experience was flawless. The menu is full of unique flavor combinations, each crafted with such care that every bite feels like something special you can’t find anywhere else nearby. The staff made the evening even better, every interaction was warm, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. For dessert I enjoyed the Rice Pudding Cake with Caramel and Fresh Peaches!

It all started with the phone call. We called the day of about 3 or 4 hours before the restaurant opened.
The call was politely answered, I asked if they had any reservations available for 6 people that Saturday. The representative had a few options, and we opted for the 5 PM slot. Then he asked if we were celebrating any special events. I informed him that we were celebrating two birthdays, and he asked for the names and their spelling.
We show up a few minutes early before they open their doors. Promptly at 5 they opened up the dining room, and we were seated at our table. The menus were already at each setting, and they had the names printed at the top for both of our birthday celebrates. Additionally, there were two cards on the table for both, each signed by every staff member.
It was at this moment that I was reminded that we actually had a 3rd birthday to celebrate as well, and the staff came out with a 3rd card. We compared the cards and while it appeared like the signatures were nearly identical and in the same locations, they were not. This type of service takes time, and more importantly, care.
Our wait staff were confident, friendly, prompt, and did not rush us. Water was refilled frequently and we didn’t even have to ask or wait.
The dishes were well done, complex, and balanced. The wines were complimentary. We enjoyed the desserts as well. Despite the price of the meal it is well worth it.
Finding a dining establishment of this caliber up in the hills is not easy. Expect to pay $50+ per person depending on how much you order. We will be back for future special events, and I can not recommend this restaurant highly enough.

Fabulous fine dining experience. Everything was spot on delicious, and our server Melissa took good care of us, and checked on us regularly. Unforgettable. It’s a good idea to make a reservation, they fill up quickly. Family owned, please support local businesses like Twelve 28.

We have heard good things about Twelve 28 for YEARS, and finally ventured down to Penn Valley for our anniversary. The food and the service were exceptional, and the live acoustic guitar helped create a really nice atmosphere. The portions are generous and the pasta dish with artichokes and capers and lemon (new to the menu) was the best thing I’ve eaten in a long time. Thanks for a lovely evening, we will be back!

What a wonderful place. Took my wife there for her birthday and a little surprise with some of our adult children joining us a little bit later. The weight staff was wonderful and didn’t seem to be in a rush while we took up space waiting. We were pampered and Had a wonderful time. Loved the dinner, the food was exceptional, and can’t wait to go again. The menu was personalized with happy birthday to my wife, there was a birthday card on the table, signed by all the staff that made her feel great. And I showed this to a friend and They can’t wait to go there now. It’s a bit of a hike from Sacramento to Penn Valley, but well worth the trip. Great atmosphere, great service, exceptional food! Chef Zach‘s food is always stunning, exceptional, and as close to perfection as any food can get. You’re treated like family when you visit this family run restaurant and you certainly don’t get the pretentiousness that you often get from places that serve this caliber of food. Ingredients are seasonal, locally sourced, the menu is ever-changing and always thoughtful. is be never left here wanting more and that is why this is my favorite place to dine when I visit Nevada County.

First time at Twelve 28 Kitchen and it definitely met up with all my friend’s raves! We had a wonderful and delicious anniversary dinner and the staff made it very special. We were greeted with our menus that gave us a special “Happy Anniversary” message on the menu, table waiting with another greeting and brought water immediately. Our waitress gave us some explanations of the menu items we requested and our food came out with perfect timing. Delicious soup and wonderful entrees which we shared. The entire dinner experience was presented with care, satisfying and filling and we left with smiles on our faces! This will be a “special occasion” type of restaurant for us. We also found out that the owners are neighbors just down the street so we found new friends! We highly recommend everyone to try Twelve 28 Kitchen!

Thank you for a wonderful dining experience. We took such delight in the flavors of the appetizer and wished we had not split it. It was so yummy. I had the chicken pot pot, the sauce was great and chicken cooked to perfection. Haley had the beef dish which seemed to melt in her mouth. We shared the carrot cake- our waitress was also named Haley and she was attentive but not interrupting. In all a great meal – we savored every bite, and wonderful service.

I used to eat at this place years ago, and just remembered it, and how good it is. I was actually reminiscing of it like a long lost love. I’m at that age I guess lol. I love quality food that much. Anyway, this place is incredible, and I hope it’s open for decades to come. Everything they make is incredible. Enjoy!
