It’s like a fast food place basically. You order from a kiosk and pay. Pretty small menu.
I placed order sat down and in about 10min my name was called.
The portions seemed a little small for the price. I ordered a bowl, fish tacos, flautas, elote, tostada.
The best out of all were the flautas and fish taco. The bowl didn’t have enough meat or maybe it was too much rice which was kinda bland.
I’d probably stop by again and maybe try something different.
I don’t think I would recommend to my friends because they would leave hungry unless they order at least $40 each lol.
Food: 5/5
Al Pastor was their best taco. Not too salty. Well balanced flavors.
Carne Asada with lime hits the spot. Reminds me of Los Tacos No.1
Tamarind Refresher was really good. Sweet and sour!
The menu boasts a wonderful assortment of tacos, allowing diners to choose between corn or flour tortillas, each topped with the essentials: onion, cilantro, salsa, and a luscious avocado salsa. I couldn’t resist ordering the Al Pastor taco, a personal favorite. The marriage of marinated pork and juicy pineapple chunks creates a perfect harmony of sweet and savory, transporting my taste buds straight to the streets of Mexico.
Equally impressive was the Birria Taco, featuring Jalisco brisket enveloped in a crispy tortilla. This dish is a testament to slow-cooked perfection, with tender meat steeped in a rich, spiced broth (consomé). Each bite was a revelation, enhanced by the delightful crunch of the pan-fried tortilla.
For those seeking vegetarian options, the Nopal taco, made with grilled cactus, stands out as a flavorful choice. The seasoning and charred notes provide a satisfying depth, ensuring that everyone can find something to enjoy.
The pricing at IXIM is refreshingly reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food and the impeccable service. I had the pleasure of chatting with Franklin, the owner, who took a moment to share his culinary journey. His pride in the hand-pressed corn tortillas, made fresh daily, echoed the sentiment of tradition and home cooking—what abuela would have done, he explained. It’s clear that Franklin’s passion for food and Mexican culture permeates every dish served.
To complement my meal, I savored a glass of Agua de Jamaica, a refreshing iced hibiscus tea that perfectly balanced the rich flavors of the tacos. Its tartness was reminiscent of a cranberry tea, making it an ideal companion to the flavorful offerings.
During my time at IXIM, I appreciated the opportunity to connect with the community. I shared smiles and stories with local police officers and fellow restaurant owners, creating a sense of camaraderie that reflects the heart of Hackensack.
I eagerly anticipate my next visit to explore more of what IXIM has to offer. With its dedication to honest ingredients and real technique, this new taqueria is poised to become a beloved spot within our vibrant culinary scene.
