We finally tried the fried pork intestines and the were crunchy and pretty good. The food was very good and the portion sizes were awesome. The prices are reasonable and this is a good place to dine in. The wonton soup is a favorite.

Food is ok. Mostly vegetables. Very mild flavors/similar flavors. Plain wonton soup and crab rangoons that are smaller than you come to expect. Overall 6/10, there’s better places for the same price, probably won’t order from here again.

My new favorite Chinese food restaurant. I decided to try this place for the first time the other week. I have since been back a couple time – both delivery and pickup orders. Each time my food has been hot, fresh, generously portioned, and packaged well. The restaurant itself if quiet and clean. The gentleman who handed me my food was welcoming and kind. I’ll continue to come back.

We’ve gone to Hunan East every Christmas for years and never had an issue. We expect a wait on Christmas, of course, but this year they were extremely unprepared. We ordered online, and 2.5 hours later my husband asked for a refund after sitting there for an hour with no update at all not even a rough estimate of when the food might be ready. The order was over $100, which makes the lack of communication even more frustrating. To make matters worse, they said they couldn’t even issue a refund until tomorrow, which is the biggest lie I’ve heard. A refund may take 3–5 business days to show up in an account, but you can absolutely provide same-day proof that it was processed. Since the new ownership, this place has gone downhill. This place is not worth it, and we will not be going back.

When Richmond Mall was in decline, and then closed, and then the Pandemic hit, a lot of stores in that neighborhood also closed or barely hung on.
That included a once thriving Chinese restaurant on Richmond Road right across of the Mall, Hunan East. Since 2020, it was limited to take out only.
Hunan East is back as a full service restaurant for the first time since the beginning of the Pandemic! It has new very experienced ownership, and the food is OUTSTANDING!
If it’s not on the menu they will make it by request. For example, they made me the best Hot and Sour Soup I’ve ever had. Because I don’t eat pork, they made steamed pot stickers stuffed with chicken and vegetables. On the menu, a first for us, Chicken with Chinese Egg Plant was delicious.

Previous owner served excellent food. New management does not serve the same and at higher prices, unfortunately I can get same store bought egg rolls at Aldis. I’m bummed. Their dining room is open for sit down at least. Take out service was fast.
