If you’re ever in Modesto, California, do not miss out on Sofia’s Bar & Grill hands down one of the best Mexican food spots I’ve ever tried. Like, really, really delicious. Every dish is full of bold, mouthwatering flavor that keeps you coming back for more.
And the drinks? So good. Whether you’re sipping something fruity or classic, everything is crafted just right.
The place itself is surprisingly spacious, making it the perfect spot for a chill night out, a fun sports event watch party (TVs everywhere!), a romantic date night, or even a big family gathering. What a great day to ride from Oakland Harley Davidson out to Sofia’s Bar & Grill in Modesto. I called them an hour and a half before we left and talk to Selena and have her a headcount, and what time we would be there. Selena and staff had everything set up when we rolled into the parking lot. Great food and atmosphere first time going here. We will definitely be back..

Attended a party here with professionals. The rice I got was that crusty and had a hard texture (the kind scraped from the bottom of the pan). I had to order a replacement right away. The appetizer plate that had taquitos’ shell were chewy as well instead of it being crispy. Some food came very hot, some not so. The chicken that came with another order was extremely over cooked and dry. The place only had another group party, so these instances shouldn’t have been occurring. On top of that, a round of shots were ordered for a large group and instead of charging for a well, they charged $20 EACH which totaled to $200 for the 10.
Customer service from the bar did come over to check on our table and was very friendly and polite though. But coupled with the food mishap and billing issues, I wouldn’t recommend returning. Food was tasty, but wouldn’t want to go through the hassle of it all. Other places will do it right the first time.

Tonight we had dinner at Sofia’s Bar and Grill. Jovita had the Chili Relleno with carne asada. I had a wet burrito with red sauce with carne asada. For our beverages I had a strawberry margarita and Jovita had a Diet Coke.

Food was delicious. Definitely a little different than what these dishes typically taste like in the area anyways, it very good regardless. Just expect slightly different flavors. Our waitress was very sweet, and they accommodated our two dogs which we really appreciated. I love love love that the margaritas weren’t too sweet. I hate that. I was worried that the strawberry margarita would have that syrup-y taste, but it was perfect.

This place looks really nice. The lighting, walls, seats, tables, and decor are very appealing. The server we had was very attentive and she was very polite. We didn’t wait long for our food. My wife ordered tacos and I ordered Chile Verde.
She enjoyed the tacos but she did mention the cheese she ordered on her tacos may have been a little dry and slightly crunchy. And I was really surprised to see what the Chile Verde looked like. Our server said it was Chile Verde when she placed it on the table so I didn’t want to offend anyone or complain when I noticed it didn’t look like Chile Verde at all. It was pork but it had red sauce instead of green sauce (Verde). Again, I didn’t want to cause inconvenience or upset anyone in the kitchen so I gave it a try. It didn’t taste bad. But it didn’t taste anything like Chile Verde. I suspected that maybe it was their own spin on the traditional Mexican dish. Would’ve liked a heads up before I ordered. Maybe we can visit again and try something different on the menu. It is a very beautiful restaurant.
