I visited Don Barriga on a casual monday evening to try some vegetarian options. Its a mexican restaurant with the classic items like quesadillas, nachos, enchiladas, along with tortas and other specials.
I got myself an order of the enchiladas with the veggie option with red and green sauces. I would say the dish comes packed! Its got flavor with the green and red sauces, the beans were cooked well, the rice classic. I forgot to add some jalepenos to the mix but without it the grilled veggies were good as well. I also tried the Hibiscus agua fresca, which was a nice mellow flavor to accompany the food.
Overall, I’d come back to try the quesadillas next time,, and would recommend it to others in 2026!!

We had so much fun here. The staff is incredibly friendly and lively. We had a great time interacting with them. Not only that but the food was incredible. So delicious with a real authentic and home cooked feel. The prices were amazing especially considering the location. I could easily see this being a regular hang out spot. It had a lovely relaxed community vibe that the restaurant facilitates with its hospitality and personality.

Very nice mexican spot. The food was amazing. There were so many options to choose from. I got the hibiscus water….OMG! It was very refreshing and quenched my thirst. I had steak tacos and my boyfriend has the cow tongues tacos. There were no complaints. The fresh Pico was perfect. The corn was to die for. We definitely need to go back. The staff was patient with me while I couldn’t decide what to order. The indoor was beautifully decorated. Outside were tables and chairs.

I really like this place. So I had to comment and say, whoever is cooking the lengua, make sure they stay as far away from this delicacy as possible. I order the lengua burrito and could not eat it because of how big, chunky, rubbery, and flavorless the meat was. It was extremely unappetizing I almost threw it away. Instead I stewed it like it was supposed to be, and saved it. Here is how it looked after i saved it. Not worth $20

Update: The meat .. something is wrong with your lengua. It was irredeemable even after re-alchemizing it. Still metallic and just bleghh. Ew. What did you do to it????

We came here for lunch, and everything was outstanding. The salsa and chips were excellent, especially the spicy red sauce which tasted like it had a base of sesame seeds and red chilis rather than tomato. It was pretty spicy, but super flavorful.

We got the tacos al pastor and chicken mole. Portion size were plenty big and flavors were great!

Servers were kind and attentive, and the wall art and music were nice and festive.

Wow! I no longer have to trek down into South Philly for authentic Mexican food!

The flavors were authentic. Generous portions. Really loved the beef tongue tacos. The consomme on my friend’s plate was delicious – i think i stole half of it during our meal, lol. Service was fast and friendly. Nice decor and atmosphere. I’m so happy this restaurant opened in our neighborhood. I wish I had come by sooner, but I have been driving past it for weeks now with much skepticism due to the many mediocre “Mexican” restaurants in University City. I’m impressed! I’ll be back again.

I need you to order the Breakfast Fajita Omelette so that you can smell this picture and fall in love like I did lmao
Ever since trying this plate, I haven’t been able to forget the pure satisfaction I felt with every bite! I cannot wait to go back and experience the quality of their other dishes.

Came in early one chilly afternoon. We were seated immediately. We started with the Guacamole which I couldn’t get enough of. The gringas were ordered but I knew I’d probably only eat 1. It was alright. Just something I didn’t gravitate towards. I had the Tacos Spruce with 3 different meats. One chorizo, one steak and Mexican ground beef. That chorizo was definitely the stand out for me. All in all, it was a good taco spot to try. Nothing was really a wow for me.
There were a lot of take out orders which was good to see. Would definitely get a to go order from here one day.

We went with friends on a quiet Tuesday for lunch, and my daughter and I shared the birria quesadilla (at my friend’s recommendation) and the quesadilla pastor (because it came with guacamole), and my husband got the shrimp tacos. When the birria with consome arrived, I was floored by the first bite, like, transported to another place and time level experience. The pastor was also very, very good and we really enjoyed everything else, including the flavorful salsas that come with the chips, the guacamole, the tiramisu and tres leche cake, all superb – but if you eat beef: Oh. My. God. This birria.
