Bisnonna Bakeshop is a Italian artisan bakery serving Northern Virginia and the DMV. Bisnonna, which translates to great grandmother in Italian, is an ode to our family matriarchs who celebrated togetherness with flour, sugar, and butter. Our recipes are passed down from generation to generation and always made by hand. We specialize in classic Italian pastries and are most known for our hand-rolled cannoli in a variety of flavors.
Everything at Bisnonna Bakeshop is from-scratch and made-to-order, because everything we bake is made by hand, not machines. We do it just like our grandmas did: with our hands covered in flour and a rolling pin at our side, one batch at a time. We accept pre-orders online for pick-up from our store.

OMG! Being Italian from New York, I pined for a place in Northern Virginia that made the delicacies I enjoyed from the bakeries there, and NOW I FOUND ONE!!!
Bisnonna is run by several women who make Italian specialities that are staight out of their great-grandmas kitchens, and it shows in the best possbile way! I bought rainbow cookies (nice and big and luscious) and fig cookies (same!) and a custard-filled something I had never tried before, and it was all delicious! I met one of the owners and we had a lovely, no-time-pressure chat about everything and anything. I wish her all the best with the new baby on the way!
The best thing to do is to order online, and when you get there try something new if they haev any left. I did, and I’m delighted to thank my lucky stars that Bisnonna is here!

Nicole’s little bakery is an absolute hidden gem! My groom and I both come from Italian families and knew we wanted Italian pastries at our wedding in Orange, VA, but we were doubtful that we would find anything in the area. A friend discovered Bisnonna on Instagram and we were so excited when we saw all our favorite Italian pastries we ate growing up on her website. We were then absolutely elated when Nicole said they would deliver to Orange, VA on our wedding weekend, which happened to be Easter weekend! The pastries were beyond a huge hit! Not only were they absolutely delicious but they were beautifully displayed. So many of our family and friends ran over to tell us how amazing the pastries were and wanted to know where we found these outside of New York. We could not recommend Bisnonna more and we definitely plan on making Bisnonna an anniversary tradition (if not much more!). Thank you again Bisnonna for helping to make our wedding day so special and so personalized to us!!

Bisnonna Bakeshop made 13-8” classic tiramisu cakes for our daughter’s wedding, so we could have one cake per table!! They were made tree-nut free to accommodate allergies and were ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!! Everyone raved about them and have asked for the name of the Bakeshop!! Would recommend to anyone!!! I will definitely be going back to buy treats for holidays!!

Outstanding desserts and customer service! We loved the Cannolis the Tiramisu and the Rainbow Cake slices. My wife and kids loved the cannolis for mothers day. Im a big fan of thr traditional flavors with a spin on them and they did a great job. Next time I need to get the raspberry tiramisu. The owner was really friendly. We’ll be back!

We are so happy we chose Bisnonna for our wedding day- We did their 6 inch rainbow cookie cake for us to cut into and Nicole and her staff did 17 different pastries for us for dessert that were AMAZING. I am from NY and all of our NY guests were obsessed with how fantastic everything turned out. Our guests are still asking us where we had the pastries from. We are super grateful, everything turned out perfect. We still have some left over pastries 1 week later that are STILL fresh. Thank you!!!

We drove from Arlington and waited over an hour to try their cannolis and I was disappointed. I can’t recommend this bakery if you’re looking for guaranteed good cannolis, since the day I went the cannolis weren’t it.
The shells for the 4 we ordered were all overcooked and had a weird chewy texture. They are also extremely overpriced at $4 a mini cannoli.
The classic also does not come with chocolate chips though the description in the shop lists it.
I’ve had better stateside cannoli in NJ and Boston. Cannoli can’t compare to that of Italy.
Update: don’t you love it when businesses reply to responses and instead of actually responding to any of the points they invalidate the review?

We legitimately have driven 45 minutes from Greenbelt, MD to pick up the most amazing Italian pastries from Bisnonna. I’m from Long Island, NY so I grew up with good Italian bakery treats at every family holiday event, and these are better than anything I remember from growing up. Everything we’ve gotten from Bisnonna Bakeshop is absolutely delicious, and we also appreciate all the beautiful attention to detail in how they package and present everything. Yesterday was my birthday and instead of birthday cake, we got birthday cannolis and sfogliatella from the Easter menu and it was heaven. If we didn’t live so far away (and loathe driving to VA…) we’d be there every week…!

My taste in Italian deserts is quite limited and honestly I love what Bisnonna has on offer, my wife however grew up with Italian deserts and will eat nothing else in this area but Bisnonna Bakeshop! I think we have become their best customer as my wife just can’t get enough! (And neither can I!) The cannolis are simply divine and they are always coming up with new unique and decadent flavors! They have pop ups on Saturdays and if they had more I would easily be 20 pounds heavier!

small little bakeshop located next to Papa John’s on a tiny strip mall in front of 99 Ranch in Fairfax.
what’s great about this shop is that you can walk in and pick up your online order or you can walk in and buy something from what they have available. I came in beginning of November incredibly annoyed thanks to my period. I went to their fridge and picked up their rainbow cookie bits and pieces just to try. for whatever reason, I could not get my phone to work when it came to checkout. It would not do my mobile pay for whatever reason & the sweet ladies at the front told me to just pay for it next time. I honestly could’ve cried. I ended up going to 99 ranch and getting cash back to pay them, but they don’t take cash. so lesson learned – credit card only or order online.
I ordered online end of November because I knew my period was coming. and perfect timing, Saturday pickup I was on my period and they had my order of 4 bags of rainbow cookie pieces ready! I gave them back one bag and ate one in the car like a true savage. but you know what, it was worth it.
it’s worth it to come here because the women here are amazing and the rainbow cookies are the bomb! I’m from NYC and just love a good rainbow cookie….and this truly hits the spot for me. I plan on ordering their rainbow cookie cake and eating it by myself because I can. Like Joey on Friends, I don’t share food.
come, get your cookies because you will not be disappointed. I’ve waited for ages to find a place in NoVA that does Italian cookies correctly & I have finally found the place.

I heard about Bisnonna from my father and had been waiting to give them a try but I never had the opportunity to get my order in in advance. Fast-forward several months and my brother stumbled upon their bakery at Tysons. They were almost completely sold out but still had a few pistachio cannolis, which he brought by. The cannolis definitely lived up to the expectations. The shell was perfect, crispy and just right in terms of thickness. The filling was delicious, creaming and smooth. If you’re looking for a standout cannoli look no further
