Reviews
We had dinner with my aunt and a very close family friend, which made the evening even more special. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere sets the tone: cozy, comfortable, and timeless. The exposed brick alone deserves a mention—it adds such warmth and character and makes the space feel both intimate and classic New England. And really… who doesn’t love being right near Litchfield Green? It’s one of those places that just feels right.
Wine, Beer & Value
The wine list was thoughtfully curated with a very nice selection across different styles, and the pricing was more than fair—always appreciated. Even better? A glass of wine or a beer for $6 or less is almost unheard of these days, especially for a restaurant of this quality. It makes it easy to relax, enjoy another glass, and truly settle in.
First-Time Fried Pickle Experience (Converted!)
I had my first-ever fried pickle here—and now I get the hype. If you like pickles, you will absolutely love this dish. The batter was light, fresh, and not overpowering, letting the flavor of the pickle shine through. The real test? My aunt doesn’t even like pickles—and she didn’t complain once. In fact, she had more than one. That says everything.
Burgers Done Right
The burgers were delicious—clearly made with fresh meat, not pre-formed patties. Juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly, they’re the kind of burger you crave again the next day. Simple, high-quality ingredients prepared well—exactly how a great tavern burger should be.
Atmosphere & Experience
The overall vibe is relaxed and inviting, perfect for family dinners, catching up with friends, or an easy night out. We already know we’re going back—next time to sit at the bar, which looks like the perfect spot to enjoy the ambiance, a glass of wine, and maybe another order of those fried pickles.
Final Thoughts
Market Place Tavern in Litchfield delivers on food, atmosphere, value, and location. Cozy brick walls, fair-priced drinks, fresh burgers, and a setting that captures everything we love about Litchfield—this is a place we’ll happily return to again and again.
Highly recommend if you’re visiting Litchfield or lucky enough to call it home.
We sat at the bar and started with drinks. I had a bourbon cocktail that was smooth. She ordered a wine, rosé.
For food I had the everything bagel pretzel appetizer which came warm and perfectly seasoned with a creamy dipping sauce that was addictive. It was a bit overcooked with a hard bottom. She ordered the steak sandwich which came on a fresh roll with tender meat and crispy fries. We both left full and impressed.
The staff was friendly and attentive even though the place was busy.
Whoever was cooking in the kitchen Sunday – excellent!
But even better is the food and service.
Tonight was my mom’s birthday and the servers and hosts helped me with a few surprises!!
Will be back!
I am a server and want to shout out Chrissy (sp?). She is top notch!!!!!!!
Ordered the duck fat poutine as an appetizer, which sucks because the waitress never put it in so we let it go once our mains came out.
Got the steak sandwich with truffle fries and my husband got the fried chicken special.
The best part of the meal was the truffle fries. They were hot, crispy and the perfect amount of truffle.
The steak sandwich was really disappointing. The steak had little flavor, the baguette was supposed to be “garlic bread” twas not garlic bread at all. The mushrooms were too thick and a few minutes shy of being properly sautéed. And the worst offense; there was no sauce, nothing to bind it. In all honesty the Steak and Cheddar from Panera bread is FAR superior, which is disappointing when you’re paying triple the price.
The fried chicken special again was underwhelming. Definitely a few minutes over and the “mac and cheese” was dry and the “sauce” was broken and flavorless and not at all what is pictured in their marketing.
Should have known when the drink menu was an entire page that the food is not the backbone of this spot.
On a positive note, they made THE best Shirley temple.
