Built in the 1860’s on the original four corners of Shade’s Mills, 13 Main Street has been the home of many entrepreneurial endeavours. In 1982 it opened its doors as Café 13, and thrived, becoming a local favourite for quality dining. Over the decades the restaurant changed hands and evolved but always remained a pillar of the community. In 2017, it was rebranded under new ownership but continued the tradition of serving great dishes with excellent service.

I’m a lover of French dip sandwiches and I’ve tried a bunch in the Waterloo region, but this one is probably my favourite. I love the flavour.
The main street salad is soo so good, highly recommend.
The sticky chicken bowl is now my favourite menu item and I’ll be back many times for that one, for sure.
Photo is from our most recent visit where my 7yo and I shared the french dip and the chicken bowl. I usually get the main st salad over fries, but I knew the fries would be his first choice. He’s still dreaming about the chicken bowl though, he loved it. Told our server he gives the food 5 stars, so there ya have it. Solid review from my 7yo
They have a veggie burger and gluten free bun options. The chicken burger with onion rings was good. The fries were great. There is a good selection of beer from micro breweries.
We all tried a bit of each & there wasn’t one complaint. It was hard for me to share my schnitzel dinner as the spaetzel in a mushroom cream cream sauce was so unique but soo delicious. I ended up ordering another one to go to eat for dinner the next day. Knowing everything was made in house made it that much better
The steak dinner was definitely my second favourite. If ya haven’t tried this place out, you are missing out !! Also service couldn’t have been better. Ok rant over lol
The ambiance and atmosphere are both pleasant and inviting. Friendly greeting and we were quickly sat a large table. Our drink orders were taken and in no time they arrived at our table. (Shout-out to “Peel St. Pilsner… it was very enjoyable )
The Korean cauliflower was shared by all of us and we all liked it. Our daughter raved about her pickle pizza, odd but appetizing. Both the burger and braised beef were delicious, the meat was perfectly prepared and very tender.
The service was very attentive and friendly.
We will come back next time we’re in Cambridge, to try some their other tantalizing offerings.
Food was decent, but portions were small enough for me to finish my entire plate and still feel snacky a couple hours later which is rare for me. It was also served cold? I eat fast, but within maybe 2 minutes of being set on the table, all of the heat had been sapped from it and I was left with cold spaghetti and meatballs. My wife’s mac and cheese was admittedly pretty awesome though, nice crunch and tasty buttery flavour, even when it was also inevitably cold.
Waitress seemed pretty miffed about our general presence there four hours before closing, so it felt unwise to bring up these concerns and have them alleviated.
