Atmosphere- cute design. Indoor and outdoor seating. Not a big area to wait. Maybe they should put seats outside to wait if allowed
Staff – i saw a lot of staff but none at our table and hard to catch their eye. The place was about 30% full when we arrived at 5pm. That said, we didn’t get our order in until 5:35pm! They told us to sit wherever we wanted and they brought us menus and a pitcher of water. No explanation of how to order. But, Since we’ve been to other dumpling houses we knew to fill out the checklist. Then we sat and waited and waited. Finally got up and brought to the waiters by the kitchen. Then they come back 5 minutes later to tell us they are out of the tea we ordered and that it is just a bagged tea.
Next our green beans came, after about 10 more minutes. Then our rice cakes came another 5 to 10 minutes after that.
After a while, a third dish came but it was not what we ordered. Bao instead of dumplings. By then, we said to just cancel our third order.
The poor table next to us waited for their dessert over 15 minutes and when it finally came they asked for it to go.
I know the place is new, so they need time to sort out their glitches. The staff were pleasant when we did finally have any interactions with them. I didn’t really see any management and couldn’t figure out who was waiting on what table.
The place was 100% full with people waiting when we left. Everyone looking around. Lol
Overall, the dishes we had were delicious and it’s nice to have dumplings nearby!
I will be back but maybe get it to go.
Just a note to say how amazing your staff are- despite an order mistake this evening- Vace went above and beyond for us to help resolve the situation. Vace and – I am so sorry I’ve yet to learn his name- but the Asian gentleman who is usually helping me with my takeout order at the door, he’s the one who actually let me know about the option to boil the beef on my particular order for the plain black pepper udon noodle dish- as I kept ordering the meat on the side with no seasoning. Vace and this gentleman are phenomenal and expertly so welcoming and I can’t say thank you enough for their hospitality.
Again- Thank you too for being so kind to us every visit, you all are really exceptional- despite an order misunderstanding tonight, it was resolved without a hiccup. We truly appreciate your staff. Also thank you to your kitchen staff, they’re so wonderful to help with our menu modifications. We understand it may not be easy to have guests like my family who are so picky but we sincerely appreciate that your kitchen staff have accommodated us. Thank you so so much!… I hope my extra gratuity on top of the card transaction’s gratuity helps somewhat to compensate our order modification. Your menu and how you prepare my family’s favorite noodle dish, it’s definitely worth every dollar and we don’t mind paying more and the extra gratuity to ensure that your servers and chef’s time and trouble are compensated. It’s impressive to me that my family’s -sometimes obnoxious-requests are so well taken care of here. So so thankful.

The diversity grows here in Newport Beach. I am new to the area and have been eager to try all the restaurants around here. I have to admit, between the options for Italian, Mediterranean, Thai, Sushi/Japanese, (the BEST fried fish tacos) Mexican restaurant and a Vietnamese pho place, which they all have been wonderful dining options within a 3- block radius, now the added (and in my opinion, more authentic) Chinese restaurant in the mix, it’s a welcomed addition in my opinion.
I can only review thus far on the takeout experience as I’ve only been by to grab takeout the last few days and each visit exceeded my expectations even better than the last. They are visibly taking notes and feedback from their customers’ experiences. I was lucky enough to visit on their first opening night, and the best part of this has really been how consistently professional and welcoming they are. Service, to sum it up, is exceptional and so friendly.
Oliver always takes care of my visits and I’ve appreciated his recommendations. Thank you, Oliver.
By far the BEST takeout experience not just in their presentation, but they’re prompt, despite with how busy their dinner crowds may be.
Onto the food… familiar flavors that bring immediate confort for me. I am boring as I order my staples: egg rolls, kung pao chicken, shrimp fried rice, and fried noodles. If they meet my standards here, then I’m confident I’ll enjoy more of their menu; they hit the mark on all four staples of mine. The egg rolls aren’t my favorite but they satisfy any craving I may have. Oddly though, I actually enjoyed the leftover shrimp fried rice and noodles the next day, even more than the initial night. If you’re a fan of Chinese takeout leftovers, you may agree with me on this one, as they’re already delicious from the start, so to only get more flavorful the next night, that’s a bonus!! I can’t wait to try more from their menu.
All-in-all, a wonderful experience and their staff seem prepared and welcoming. A delicious assortment of selections from their menu I am looking forward to trying. When I compare it to the more familiar Chinatown crowd favorites, Mimi’s is a close contender and will satisfy cravings one may have for dim sum.
*Easy to find with ample parking in the Chase Bank/Vons Pavilion shopping center; located on the opposite end of the center from Chipotle.
It’s one block from the beach so be sure to enjoy a seaside stroll or sunset or two if you dine
