I tried several kinds — truffle mushroom, BBQ, broccoli rabe & sausage, and prosciutto-arugula with mortadella & pistachio — and every single one was unbelievably good. The flavors were spot-on, fresh, and so creative.
On top of that, the people behind the counter were so nice and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better.
Highly recommend — I’ll definitely be back!
Crust 10/10
The crust has the perfect combination of being airy, crispy, without being burnt.
Sauce 7/10
The sauce taste like the fresh tomato cooked in the oven style. It has some of that fresh tanginess of the tomato but it doesn’t really stand out on its own.
Cheese 7/10
The cheese is there but the flavor doesn’t come through with any special notes or textures.
Toppings:
Buffalo Chicken 9/10
– the flavor is spot on. Not too buttery or spicy, just the right amount of spicy flavor.
Vodka Roni Pesto 9/10
– smart combination of pepperoni, sauce, pesto. I think it could use some more pesto. I like the spice of the pepperoni
Potato 7/10
– it’s cool to try this. It’s like half way between potato and mashed potato.
What makes Taglio so delicious? Their Roman-style pies are baked in rectangular blue-steel pans, resulting in a unique crust that’s both crispy on the bottom and incredibly light and airy in the middle. It is the perfect dough, made with high-quality Caputo flour, which contributes to a fantastic chew and a feeling of not being overly full after enjoying a few slices.
Beyond the exceptional crust, Taglio uses artisanal meats and cheeses, ensuring every bite is packed with bold flavor. Popular mentions include their Bianco, burrata with balsamic drizzle, and Mortadella with pistachio slices. The freshness of ingredients, like basil and grated cheese on every slice, also gets high praise!
If you’re in Mineola or Massapequa Park, Taglio is a must-visit. The staff was very friendly, helpful and the service was fast for such a crowd. It’s not just great pizza; it’s a culinary experience that has earned international recognition and a loyal following. 5/5!
Unlike Umberto’s, This place has the informal feel of a sports bar – 3 screens and seating for ~30.
Decor is kid-adultish, cartoon themed on one side, and testimonials on the other (Guys, you prepare prime stuff and don’t need testimonials).
On this day, we food stragglers walked late, when they were in pipe-down mode; some banter going on, behind the counters.
Our selection went into the oven for a reheat and some additional char.
Balsamic drizzle on Burrata NY slices was a magical finishing touch. Bianco Roman lived up to the status of perinnial favorite. We also love their potato rosemary, vegana, vodka and The Serra (named after LI hero) slices.
Their location, close to Winthrop (now NYU Langone Hospitals) & Mineola commuter hub, is conducive to the ‘taglio’ (by the slice) business model. But being tucked under the Mineola overpass might be keeping some drive-by business away. Availability of parking has been an occasional handicap, too. We also wonder why they stack dry storage in dining area, to Mar the ambience.
Worth noting that ‘taglio’ convenience comes at a price. Sum of parts (slices) adds-up to 50% premium over the full pie.
