The service was extremely slow and the food was expensive and not up to quality. We got the mushroom cream soup. Flavor was good, needed to be hotter. We also got the Jollof Supreme, a variety dish with chicken, rice with shrimp, coleslaw and plantain. The chicken was so rubbery and tough that it couldn’t be pulled off the bone with a fork. The rice had very good flavor and the plantains and coleslaw were good. Not worth the $38 for the entree. Won’t be back.

The food is good and taste like Authentic nigerian cuisine. Food takes long to come but is very fresh. The turkey is $10 per piece so on the expensive and was a bit dry.

A good place to try if you dont mind wait and your looking for fresh nigerian cuisine

I recently visited this restaurant and was quite disappointed. I ordered goat meat, which was wonderfully tender and flavorful, and the spinach was delicious. However, the jollof rice and plantains tasted as if they had been sitting on the stove for far too long, giving them a burnt flavor. I paid $57 for the meal, and it was definitely not worth it. I used to love this restaurant when it was on Lafayette Road, and the prices were reasonable, but now the experience has changed. I even called to request a refund or a replacement, but the staff were unhelpful and offered no resolution. It’s disappointing to see such a decline, especially as a loyal customer. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone ‼️

Food was amazing! The manager maybe owner? Brought us out little samples because we didn’t know what to order. I decided on goat, jollof and fish. The egusi was also fantastic and something was red and spicy and to die for but I thought I would regret eating something that spicy on lunch . Would recommend 10/10 for service and food!

Unlike the other two African restaurants I have reviewed in Indiana, Kalakutah’s food was okay. I ordered pounded yam with Egusi and Shaki (Tripe) and Pomo (cow meat). I enjoyed it. I did have some unique taste. I think the melon seeds (Egusi) was roasted. I also tasted my husband’s order, which was Ofada rice (local rice) with Ayamase. That was a disappointment. After trying it for the first time from another restaurant yesterday and liking it, today’s at Kalakutah’s was nothing to write home about.

Pros:-
– The restaurant is somewhat spacious. There was a nice lounge/sitting area.
– Overall, the food was okay. The Pounded yam and Egusi was 4.5 out of 5 but Ofada rice was a 1 out of 5 for me. They could also do better with the meat portioning. I understand that they allow you an option of up to two varieties and any addition would be an additional cost. So, the options for meat were 1) Goat meat, 2) Cow meat, 3) Tripe (Shaki), and 4) Fish, I believe. Anyway, I ordered cow skin and tripe and literally got one of each . It could have been cut in smaller pieces or something so it does not look so rigid.
– They were setting up what looks like an outside seating area with Suya (Nigerian-styled grilled meat) but I never got to taste it

Cons:-
– The service was mediocre for me. Though I personally did not have a bad service, I observed the hostess rolling her eyes as my friend, who was before me, placed her order. But it was not as bad as another friend who called me when I stepped out for a few minutes to tell me that the hostess was snappy and very irritable. I appears that this hostess may have been a little high. Such an individual should not be in the restaurant business and certainly not in the frontline for customer service.
– Not all the tables were stable.
– The bathrooms are the worst among all restaurants I have been to. Aside from being dirty, which is typical of public restrooms in general, one of the bathrooms was missing the cover of the toilet tank, another had an exposed outlet that was connected to the dryer. Though they both had a baby changing station, it was not inviting at all. The bathrooms were simply a disaster. I’m curious how they even became like that in the first place.

I’m noticing this pattern among Nigerian restaurants and it’s a pity. I think you can make a ton more money if you took the time out to maintain the restaurant. It will market itself to not only Nigerians or other Africans but to other ethnic groups willing to have a taste of Africa. It will also be nice to do table service.

Love the music and safe atmosphere! Fellow brethren gather to let loose and have fun! Plenty diversity!!! Love it! Update, visited a few more times, maybe 5, different cooks, different owners, changes in service, from made to order to buffet style… pros and cons but food is good, this food is better as it ages lol

I order this from door dash last night and I must be completely honest, this was by far the best African food I’ve ever had! I wish I was in the area where I was last night because I would order from here again. The food was tasty and very very very spicy! But absolutely delicious and flavourful.

I called for a week making sure when they would have seafood okro soup. As excited as I was and the money I spent I ended up very disappointed. It was not as pictured at all, small portion and taste was mediocre. I’ll probably won’t ever order this meal again or maybe never eat here again. I paid $17 just for the soup and I got a child’s portion. I spent $63 in total here and I do regret it. And after eating it, I felt sick to my stomach for about an hour or two.

I’ve fallen in love with Nigerian food. Kalakutah is a fantastic find. I would have given them 4.5 stars if possible. The food was fresh and delicious. The facility was clean. The prices were reasonable. The service was quick and friendly. I’d highly recommend Kalakutah and hope to return soon.
