Honestly, when it comes to the food, this is THE best restaurant in Iowa.
Every. Single. Item. That they will serve you is going to be PERFECTLY prepared.
Gimmicks aside, this is what truly makes a restaurant.
We had the catfish bites. They were perfectly fried on the outside and the catfish inside simply poofs into flavor packed clouds with every bite. Paired with the green beans, I was transported back to the Mississippi Delta church potlucks of my youth where the ultimate soul food can be found. Unbelievable.
The Iowa chop looked like it should be on the cover of a magazine and the flavor changed my entire outlook on how a pork chop can taste. Somehow everyone has been doing it the same way my entire life and I had no idea that it was all wrong. Amazing.
The pomegranate sour martini was perfectly balanced and the mulberry gin Moscow mule delivered the level of refreshment that mules are supposed to, yet rarely do.
Highly recommended.

If you’re like me, you enjoy finding hidden gems ✨️ nice local restaurants. J Bruner’s, located on the East side of the city Square in Clarinda Iowa is that type of restaurant If you venture out to check it out, you have to have the onion rings . Made fresh and crispy. Also, they have a great selection of entrees! Friday night is Prime Rib night. I had mine medium rare with a “loaded” baked potato The inside is divided into separate rooms, plenty of seating , free street parking. Friendly and helpful staff.
Ok, go try it out you’ll like it.

One of the best hidden gems in IA! The prime rib sandwich was to die for. Ordered it medium rare and it was cooked perfectly and basically melted in my mouth. The onion rings are a must. Fresh sautéed veggies and salad bar were delicious as well. Love a legit salad bar and they make all of their own dressings in house. The cocktails, whiskey, and beer options are top notch – ask for a black Manhattan! Couldn’t recommend this place more.

It was one of the best steaks I’ve ever had. The ribeye was massive but was also cooked perfectly. This steak was juicy, tender and full of flavor. If you are anywhere in the surrounding area the steaks here are a must try.

The prime rib wrap was one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. The green beans side were some of the most flavorful beans I’ve ever tasted. Great bread and salad as well.
Acoustics make this spot a bit loud.

My husband and I came here for the first time. Even though they were busy and we had a little bit of a wait, it really wasn’t too horribly long. Our server was amazing, and the food is great. Nice big plates.

The Good: Great salad bar and the Wagyu strip was so delicious. Bussers kept the table clean of dishes. Restaurant is beautiful. The Bad: The $17 shrimp appetizer hadn’t been deveined. We cleaned the first two and were able to eat those. The rest had so much intestinal material that we were disgusted, pushed the plate away, then went to the restroom to wash our hands thoroughly. Unpleasant experience. The steak fries were ridiculously salty. The menu states you can request lighter seasoning, but this was our first visit. We had no idea that we should have requested no seasoning or a diuretic for afterwards. Prime rib looked amazing, but was tasteless. Ordered medium and it was cooked perfectly. Sadly, the $50 prime rib was gnarly and hard to cut. The bites we did get had to be chewed and chewed, still ending in a hard to swallow lump. Four bites in and it came home for the dogs; hopefully they fare better. As most of the meal wasn’t eaten, we were ready for a check and to get going. Waited and waited for our waitress to come back. Yes, we understand she had other tables, but that doesn’t mean we should fall off her radar. We were very obviously waiting to leave and finally stood up to get her attention. She came back with the bill and never inquired why we hadn’t eaten most of our $138 meal. We are extremely disappointed and a little angry. We will not return.

First time dining there, read all the reviews, just to be honest, yes, it’s a bit pricey, but everything was wonderful, we got there about 6pm on a Saturday, great timing, after about an hour itvdid begin to fill up, my Cowboy Ribeye was delicious, I ordered medium rare, and that’s exactly what I got, spot on, thank you… wife had the salmon, baked, it was perfect as well. The salad bar had everything I wanted no complaints from either of us, ordered drinks, my normal double Jack Daniel’s, would’ve liked a bit more for the price but bartenders are different everywhere you go, the “boss” had a Washington red apple, was good. Michelle, our server was excellent, very polite, and attentive. Overall great experience, I recommend, will dine there again….

I have eaten here many times. Maybe 30 times. Generally it’s a positive meal & experience but, considering how much I’ve spent here, I expect this level of competence.
Tonight, I ordered a burger & got home. It had no bun & it was almost raw inside. I ordered it medium.
I called, they said to let them know when I went back to tell them & they would make it right. I felt they handled it correctly but when I went to eat my bun-less burger, it was very undercooked & that’s what prompted me to write the review. I would have driven back but it’s too far for a double trip.
Maybe a new cook? Maybe they don’t know the difference between medium & rare?
