We’ve tried their lunch and as always their meat is just so good. They even give you a sorbet after the appetizer to clean your palate. The only thing I didn’t like is the dessert which is a pecan pie and it’s just too sweet. Try the boeuf a Diane, it’s so good. They have valet parking so it’s a big plus considering how busy it is in the summer or when weather is good.

We celebrated Christmas Eve at Gibbys, and it was absolutely wonderful. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt festive, cozy, and timeless—perfect for a special holiday dinner.

The food was outstanding. The Beef Wellington was beautifully cooked and rich in flavor, the lobster was fresh and perfectly prepared, and the ribeye was tender and full of depth. Every dish felt like it was made with care and respect for classic steakhouse tradition.

Service was attentive without being intrusive, which made the evening feel relaxed and celebratory. It was one of those meals where time slows down and you’re fully present with the people you’re dining with.

An unforgettable Christmas Eve dinner. We’ll definitely be back for future celebrations.

We went as a group of 5 with a reservation on a very busy holiday night. The place was packed, and we ended up waiting about 15 minutes in the waiting area. At first, things felt a bit unorganized, and communication with the hosts (a few younger staff members) was a little challenging. For a place with this reputation and level of service, it would’ve been nice to be offered a quick welcome drink while waiting to be seated.

That said, once we were seated, everything completely changed. Our server, Kas, delivered outstanding service and truly went above and beyond to make sure everyone at our table was happy and comfortable. He was extremely knowledgeable, explained the menu well, and made great recommendations. Staff like Kas really deserve recognition—he was professional, attentive, and always there when we needed something.

The food was excellent. We ordered the Cowboy steak—we asked for medium, and it came out slightly on the rare side, but honestly, it tasted amazing. Perfectly seasoned, very juicy, and with great texture. The bone portion could’ve been served in a way that made it a bit easier to eat, but that’s a minor thing. The salads and sides were also great. I’d recommend the Gibby’s salad over the blue cheese salad. For mains, the Monte Carlo is a great choice and pairs perfectly with the classic steakhouse vibe.

Surprisingly, the seafood was also very good. We tried the crab, shrimp, mussels, and octopus, all served beautifully in a seafood tower with a variety of sauces. Portions are very generous, so I’d suggest skipping large appetizers since the mains already come with sides.

For drinks, I went with Kas’s recommendation, the Guava Mule, and it was amazing. I’m usually not a big fan of cocktails or mocktails, but I really enjoyed this one.

The only downside was cleanliness. For a place like this, both the plates and the washrooms should be better maintained. One of our plates had a food stain, which Kas replaced immediately without hesitation. The washroom, though, was not in great shape—there was an unpleasant smell and paper towels scattered around the garbage bin. I understand the building is older, and I wasn’t expecting anything fancy, but it definitely could’ve been cleaner.

Overall, the prices are reasonable considering the quality and generous portions. Despite a few small issues, it was a great experience, and I’d absolutely recommend this place and would go back again.

We had an absolutely wonderful dinner at Gibbys last night. The historic and cozy atmosphere was stunning, but what truly made our evening unforgettable was the exceptional service.

We visited with our three children, which can sometimes be a bit challenging, but our server, Sarah, was incredibly kind and attentive. She went above and beyond to make sure our kids were comfortable and well-taken care of. Thanks to her warm hospitality, our family gathering became the best dining experience we’ve had in Montreal.

The steaks were cooked to perfection, and the entire course—from the pickles to the cheese cake—was delightful. If you’re looking for a place with great food and a heart-warming atmosphere, I highly recommend Gibbys. Special thanks to Sarah for making our night so special!

Our server, Catherine, provided us with a wonderful experience! She was so much fun and had so much enthusiasm and knowledge. She clearly cares about what she does and I hope management recognizes how hard working and skilled she is! Everything we ate was delicious. We enjoyed the beef tartar appetizer and beef Wellington for dinner. The meal was perfectly paced. The dessert drink, named the Brazil, was so much fun and delicious. They flambé the drink at the table, giving you a great show. Thank you, Gibby’s, for the amazing memories!

I had previously visited gibbys and left a review, but am updating based off my new experience. I had a rather bad experience with the service over a month ago and the manager called me to have me explain the experience and offered me to come back and cover part of the meal due to the bad service the previous time. Even with the steak covered the bill was over $200 since we got wine and dessert.

This time the experience was much better. Me and my boyfriend were sat in the back of the restaurant where it is much calmer energy, and were served by Charlie she was great! She was able to help us recommend a good wine to pair with our steaks. Food was very good. I also had a Gibbys martini and I must say it is one of the best martinis I’ve ever had. For dessert we ordered the dame blanche, only slightly disappointed wad the chocolate sauce was already cold from the ice cream and had sunk to the bottom as a giant chocolate rock, but still good. We ordered espressos with dessert as well, I know gibbys is a fancy restaurant but 8$ before tax for a single espresso is a bit of a scam…
Overall very good experience especially after the previous visit, however we still did not see the elusive sommelier we had been promised to have sent to our table by the manager, but the waitress was extremely helpful!

We came here for my boyfriend’s birthday with high expectations but were disappointed. The night started with me asking a few questions about wines, which the waiter didn’t seem to have much knowledge on, instead of asking someone else he specifically said the Riesling was a sweet wine and wouldn’t pair with steak, however after a quick google search, the wine is a dry minerally wine, which I don’t expect a server to know every wine, but I wouldn’t recommend saying your not sure than giving false information.
He then went to ask the sommelier for a recommendation, but he didn’t ask us what type of wine we were looking for, and came back to suggest a 130$ bottle, with the only reasoning that it was recommended. With no proper explanation of the wine I wouldn’t purchase a 130$ bottle. Also if there is a sommelier, why are they not sent to the table to help pick a wine or recommendation?
Also when we came back with the recommendation, he brought the menu to my boyfriend even though I had been the ones asking the question??
For the steaks, the waiter asked if we wanted the steak spices on top or on the side, and the waiter wrote it down on his notepad, which my boyfriend asked for the spices on the side, yet we were served steaks with spices on them. (In my opinion it makes it worse if it written down and the mistake is made) . We decided not to say anything on the spot as the steak is still yummy and doesn’t seem worth wasting a while piece of meat for a simple mistake.

In the reservation we had made a note that we were celebrating his birthday. At the end of the meal after asking for the bill, the waiter brought the bill and was about to get the card machine, and came back to say he heard it was a birthday, and said he would be right back. He brought out a cake which is presumably their policy, but he didn’t ask us first, which yes it is nice but neither me or my boyfriend particularly wanted cake, so we ate some of it out of guilt of a whole cake brought out.
The steaks were good, also the German Riesling was a good dry white wine with steaks. The experience with the wine really tainted my experience, I know it is not a wine bar but at a restaurant where the bill is over 300$ you would hope to have a better service. At the end they take a picture on a Polaroid and give it to you which is cute.
With the whole experience I don’t count myself coming back or recommending it to anyone either.

I visited this restaurant recently and enjoyed a good overall experience. I ordered a salad as a starter, the prime rib for my main course, and a tart for dessert. Everything was nicely prepared and flavorful.
The service was attentive and friendly, which made the visit even better. The only downside is that the prices were a bit on the higher side, especially since I didn’t order any drinks.
Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience and worth trying.

My girlfriend made a reservation at Gibbys for her mom on Mother’s Day, and it was our first time visiting this well-known steakhouse. From the outside, it doesn’t look like much, but once inside, it’s beautiful — spacious, warm, and full of old-world charm. The historic building is wonderfully maintained, and the rustic decor with stone walls and wooden beams creates an inviting and elegant atmosphere.

We arrived between the lunch and dinner rushes, so the dining room was calm, aside from a private reception upstairs. The menu had a wide variety of choices to suit every preference. I ordered a steak, and it was cooked to absolute perfection — tender, flavorful, and easily the best I’ve had in Montreal so far. The appetizers were equally impressive, fresh, and well-prepared.

The service was just okay. Our server was polite but not particularly attentive, and given the restaurant’s price point, I expected a bit more attentiveness. Still, it didn’t take away from the overall experience.

Gibbys delivers excellent food in a beautiful setting, and even though the service was average, the quality of the meal and the atmosphere make it a place worth returning to.

Awesome service! Food was delicious! From the bread, to the butter, to the amazing pickles, steaks and lamb chops! The blue cheese salad is delicious, will definitely go back. Very nice ambiance but can be a bit loud if there are lots of people. Prices are good for quality and service.

An amazing experience and incredible food. The steak was perfect. It was my wife’s birthday and they brought out maybe one of the best cakes we’ve had. You get so much for the money and a beautiful atmosphere.
