Really great place in the middle of nowhere. Good beer (solid selection of 5 local taps and 3 cans) for absolutely ridiculous price of $3.50. Free popcorn. Beautiful huge outdoor terrace. Free wifi.

Really cool lodge with beautiful campus out on the middle of nowhere. Enjoyed the isolation and the walking from building to building (except on hot days lol). Food was hit or miss. Sometimes really good, other times it was bland. Not many vegan options each day but I made due.

This is the National Conservation Training Center. It is part of the Fish and Wildlife Service. This is the best government training center I’ve been to. Great location, grounds, food, service, everything. The hiking trails could be better blazed, but that is about it.

I’m not sure which is better… The beer or the company. It’s not like you have many bar options when you’re at NCTC, but this one is certainly pretty awesome. The beer list is short but spectacular. I’ve found the wines to be mediocre, but the free popcorn and other snacks more than make up for any shortcomings. And you couldn’t ask for a better group of people to hang out with after a long day of training.

This is perhaps as good as you can do for a hotel bar for work based travel. It reminds one of hanging out in your outdoorsy brother in law’s garage. Duck hunting signs, a moose head and a rowboat are the features of the decor. The draft beers top out at $6 for a liter and pretty much the whole selection is from local breweries. Food wise, either carry it in from the cafeteria on the other side of the building or get some popcorn from the self serve machine.
