My third time visiting Star of India and I am still impressed with the service here. The Lamb Curry is not as delicious as I still remembered, but somewhat still acceptable. The cup of tea on the house is lovely.

After a long, tiring day, all we craved was something simple with chicken. This was the only place open, so we called and placed an order for pickup. I asked for a recommendation, and the staff member on the phone suggested chicken pakora. I requested something tandoori-style instead, and they kindly suggested the chicken tikka and tandoori chicken, saying it would be ready in 15 minutes.
Unfortunately, the food was a letdown. The chicken had a very strong, unpleasant smell, was heavily dyed with artificial coloring, and didn’t look or taste appetizing at all. The chicken tikka came in surprisingly small portions, which didn’t feel worth the price. Sadly, we couldn’t even get through a bite, we ended up throwing the whole thing away!
We had ordered based on the great reviews and high ratings, so it’s hard to understand what went wrong. Maybe it was an off day, but we left very disappointed. Not likely to return.

My spouse and I ate here based on recommendations from multiple townies.
The food is amazing. The chicken masala is well cooked, tender, and a lovely blend of spices. The prices aren’t overbearing and you get a healthy (rather large) portion size per order. Group dining style with amazing customer service.
The eating area is well spaced and mellow. For people with sensory issues the lighting is perfect and the music/atmosphere is just soothing enough to feel at ease.
All in all, I’m coming back. This spot is an amazing place.

Star of India serves the best food in Athens. This is the only place in Athens we can go everyday for lunch or dinner. And we miss it on Sundays when it is closed. Their Indian cuisine is amazing and the prices are affordable. The background Indian music is the vibe of this restaurant. The staff is super friendly and always welcoming. Their Lamb korma with medium spice level is my favorite.

I would highly recommend Star of India to anyone in Athens that loves Indian food or someone that wants to give it a try!

Star of India is amazing. Great food for both dinning in and take out. I love spicy food, and the extra hot option doesn’t disappoint. Maybe go with spicy if you’re not ready for the heat. The chicken and lamb is very well cooked/seasoned. I got the Tikka masala my first time and it hooked me on this place. The biryana was great as well. Great potion sixes for the price. My only complaint is I didn’t know about this place sooner.
Owner is also a great guy. He’s usually hard at work in the back but when he comes to the table it’s always with a smile and great attitude. You can tell he’s passionate about his customers and the business.
