What an awesome place! My family and I stopped here on our way to our Christmas vacation driving from Philly to Maine. We knew it would be difficult to get a table to we ordered take out. They had hot chocolate and hot cider set up outside completely complementary. It was really a nice touch of holiday cheer. The pizza was really good. The crust was well done, very charred and had a taste like no other pizza I’ve had before. I tried the plain and the spicy meatball pizza. I will say this was one of the better pizzas I’ve ever had but did not quite live up to the hype as the best pizza in the US. Either way, if you’re a pizza lovers, this is a must stop if you’re ever in the area.

Hands down the best pizza I have ever had. The fact that Sally’s is not a perfect five star rating is a travesty. The sauce is world class, the crust has the perfect char, and every bite was unreal.

The service was phenomenal too, especially if you go during off hours and avoid the long lines. I was in town for work and grabbed a few pizzas, and it was absolutely worth the trip. I even brought some home for my friends to enjoy and it reheated beautifully in the oven.

Truly the best pizza of my lifetime. Thank you for the experience, Sally’s.

Rigatoni vodka, fried mozzarella, garlic bread, and three different pizzas — every single dish was outstanding. We literally finished everything.

Nina is the sweetest soul. Her kindness and positive energy made the whole experience even better. She truly made our day.

Best Italian spot around. No question. Highly recommend!

Ordered takeout from Sally’s Apizza and finally got to try it after hearing so much about how hard it is to get an order in.

The veggie pizza (5/5) with garlic sauce was really good and definitely stood out.

The shredded chicken, however, wasn’t that great—the red sauce itself was good, but overall the combination didn’t quite work for us. (3/5)

That said, the pizza itself was good, and we’re glad we finally got the chance to try this iconic spot.

Expect a long line and long wait time when you are in the door as pizzas can take 30 mins to bake. I came from nyc to try, overall would say the pizza is delicious it’s got a great crust and the char adds flavor. I tried 2 the meat apizza which was delicious the bacon and the sausage on it was full of flavor. The other tomato with mozzarella felt like it didn’t have enough cheese on it but was still good. Can report that it was much better cold as leftovers. Overall delicious pizza but coming from nyc it’s a stretch to do it for the travel and wait time. Staff is friendly and bathrooms are clean.

A notorious long line in the cold, but customers gladly wait and stand for a taste of Sally famous pizza pie. There is hot cider and chocolate to drink while waiting. Angel took good care of a hungry crowd of six. It was packed, as usual, but the food was perfect! The guys ordered pizza to take home and the chocolate cannoli pie disappeared!

UPDATE: So, Sallys responded to my review, and in all fairness, they said they use stracciatella, which is the inside of a burrata ball, which is why it was a more “creamy texture” They are a sauce-forward, less on cheese. I definitely like a saucy pizza! So that was a plus. They just need to figure out how to get the bottom dough to be crispy and not mushy.

I can’t believe people wait in the cold online for like an hour just to eat this pizza. Down the block is another famous pizza place Pepes, same thing. In my opinion, it’s not New York pizza. We got the large Burrata and Basil, have to say, it looks great, not impressed. Lots of sauce, which I like, Crust too soft, not enough burrata, I think they squirt it on. Like watery ricotta. I was expecting chucks of mozzarella with the ricotta inside. Glad I pre-ordered and didn’t wait on line in the cold

Like many a tourist, I had Sally’s Apizza on my list because of Dave Portnoy. I was blown away when I turned the corner to a line at the end of the block. The anticipation could not be higher!

We ordered two large Mozzarella & Tomato Sauce Pies, a small Bacon, Apple, Sage pie, a Caesar Salad, and a Gassosa to drink. The mozzarella and tomato pie is king for a reason. A sweet and fresh tomato sauce on a light, coal-fired crust does all the heavy lifting. The bacon and apple was unique, but I don’t love white cheese pizzas and the apple is too nuanced for me. The Caesar salad was incredible, and I pinched myself to ensure it wasn’t my taste buds boosting flavors because of the wait. The dressing isn’t too strong, and coats each leaf of fresh lettuce perfectly while dashed with just the right amount of croutons. And the gassosa complemented the pizza as I hoped it would, so I’m a big fan of the “Italian Sprite.” The amount of food was perfect for a party of five.

Angel was a great server. He under-promised and over-delivered. When we were seated, he let us know pies would take an hour. He brought our salad and drinks out quickly, and we were pleasantly surprised when food was out in about 30-40 minutes. He was quick on refills, and checked on us regularly. I enjoyed how even though there’s a lot of anticipation from patrons to get into the restaurant, and then once in receive food quickly, the staff keep the anxiety down and manage the time. They set the tone, and it makes for a great dining experience. Great service all around.

The atmosphere is everything I could hope for. A seasoned pizzeria part of the soul of a city, with fans old and new who wait for hours to get a table and share a pie. In total, I waited in line for 90 minutes, then 40 to get the pizza. It was absolutely worth the wait. Would I do it again? I’d honestly probably plan ahead and do takeout, but for my first time, I’d wait again. It was a legendary experience and well worth the memories. One Bite: 8.7/10

Delicious Pizza! We arrived 30 minutes before opening and we were 5th in line. There is normally a line as it’s very popular. The pizza was a true classic in amazing flavor. Portions were large and the price wasn’t bad especially considering how delicious the pizza tasted. Next time definitely getting it to go so a side by side can happen with their biggest competitor. Overall if you love pizza this is a must visit location as they are definitely in the top pizza places in the world.

First time trying New Haven pizza. My son said Sally’s was the better of the 3 main places. Not impressed with New Haven pizza. The staff was great, the restaurant is probably the same as when it first opened so it has some charm. The pizza was OK at best. I am a more traditional NY style guy, maybe that affects the review. Its definitely worth checking off the bucket list. Probably won’t go to the other places as New Haven Pizza isnt for me.
