We ordered the greek burger with a half slab of ribs and let me tell you that was some of the best food I’ve ever had. Alex’s Tavern is for sure somewhere we’re stopping at everytime we come through Memphis. The feel of the place is very nostalgic and seemed chill. (We did go on a sunday night so im sure it gets busier since it is a bar). If you’re looking for old school dive bar and amazing food this is the place for you.

Best dive bar in America. Rocky is a Memphis legend. The burger is awesome and the wings are perfect. But the menu broad and everything I have ever tried was delicious. Also, best jukebox in the nation. Cash only. Tell Rocky that “Saute” sent you!!

Alex’s Tavern might be my favorite place to watch sports. It’s the place to go for the NCAA Tournament when you have games for hours the first weekend. Must try the Greek Burger and the Wings! Also they’ve got shuffleboard – so good.

If you’ve been to Alex’s, you know the atmosphere is awesome. The food is great but pretty expensive for a dive bar. If you go, get the wings, Greek burger, and gumbo. The service is hit or miss. Last time we went, the bartender was so enamored with talking with two guys at the bar, he seemed to forget he had 7 tables waiting to give him an order lol. He seemed more concerned with chilling with his buds than doing his job.
I get it’s endearing sometimes for a dive bar to have cranky, slow servers. But having bad service while the food is overly expensive? Not great.
Still love this place though. Great Memphis establishment.

We didn’t know what to think when we pulled in, but we were pleasantly surprised to find a historic, homey, friendly bar with liquor setups. Our bartender wynn (spelling?) was kind and informative. The owner, rocky, was likewise hospitable.

Can’t beat this spot—quick to call it the best dive bar in Memphis; honestly thinking it might be the best dive bar I’ve ever stepped foot in. Cheap libations and excellent food—topped off by one incredible atmosphere. Cash only!

Nice dive bar. Cash only, but they have an ATM. Burgers and wings were reasonably sized and priced. Limited draft list, but there’s probably something there you’ll like. Good conversations and friendly service.

Alex’s was recommended by a local. Well outside of the tourist area, the owner was extremely nice. Excellent gumbo and wings. Would highly recommend for someone looking for an out of the way dive bar with excellent food and service
