Excellent Indian cuisine. Got the medium-level spice on the Chicken “555”—delicious but albeit could have used a little less spice. Expensive but worth it. Also tried the Goat and Mint soup, which was daring of me, but I would definitely repeat. Some bones in the food so be careful you don’t chomp down and loosen a tooth

Absolutely fantastic Indian food with a large , diverse menu. The service was attentive, helpful, and super friendly. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone who likes or wants to experience Indian food! Make sure to bring friends and get an assortment to try multiple goodies…oh and ALWAYS get some kind of bread or appetizers to dunk in the sauces!

This place is a gem. Gracious service, wonderful atmosphere, and absolutely delicious food. The dosai was HUGE and came with sambar, tomato chutney, and coconut chutney. The chef’s chicken curry was comforting and flavorful. Highly recommend!

We visited Vanakkam India on our trip to Wisconsin Dells where we had an opportunity to taste their amazing south indian foods which we felt nostalgic like being in our hometown – Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu in every bite of the Mysore masala dosa with sambar and two chutneys, chicken soup, chicken 65, chicken dum biryani and the finishers Kappi and rose milk ❤️. Not just the food, the choice of utensils used, serving style to the restaurant’s atmosphere and a peaceful surrounding everything was so good. Thank you to all chefs, staffs and the owner of the Vanakkam India for making our dine in experience an unforgettable one. We tried seeing and thanking you in person for the homestyle food you made with so much love and details but unfortunately everyone were busy which is understandable so we are leaving this review to convey our heartfelt wishes to the Team. We highly recommend this restaurant to all the people out there. We tried a variety of both non-vegetarian and vegetarian dishes, and every single one was bursting with authentic taste and perfect seasoning. But the real standout was the Sambar Idly — honestly, I’ve never tasted anything like it, even in India! The sambar was rich, aromatic, and perfectly balanced, and the idlis were soft and soaked up all that incredible flavor.
The ambiance is warm and welcoming, and the staff make you feel right at home.
If you’re craving real Indian food — not the usual Americanized version — this is the place to be. Highly recommended for anyone who wants a true taste of India right here in Rockford!

It’s a nice place. Been going there since they opened, and as the decor has slowly improved. Decent menu variety and execution. Glad to have this option for Indian food in Rockford. My family has dined there or gotten take out at least a dozen times now.
The only time that we have inconsistency has been with takeout. This happened again on Christmas Eve. Placed a sizable order in the afternoon (before they closed for a few hours) for pickup at 6pm. Food was ready on time. They were not super busy that day. Lots of empty tables when we picked up. Picture represents a little under half of what we got. Unfortunately, some of the dishes were really bad – Alu Gobi (but this one has always been variable), Malai Kofta, Kadai Chicken was substituted with Butter Chicken, and Chicken Tikka Masala (two dishes, different spice levels) were not up to par. Surprised because the Chicken Tikka Masala is usually pretty decent. Samosa Chaat was also not good.
Again, we’ve had almost all good dine-in experiences. In fact, my sister’s family went in today, got the Samosa Chaat (and other dishes) and she said it was their normal tasty execution, and much better than two days ago. She said that despite being super busy today, the execution was fine for everything that they ordered.
Kitchen staff will of course rotate during the holidays, and we likely hit a day when the regular chef was out (although the owner and some familiar faces were there during pickup). I know my mom is done with getting the Alu Gobi after more than one disappointment with this dish as a take out order. Overall, we’re still fans. Might just be a little cautious when it comes to take out.

Great Indian food, quite a long wait. We had Lamb Korma, Tandoor Chicken, Coconut Green Curry Shrimp and two types of naan (highly recommend the one with cheese). Each entree was delicious but thee food took over an hour to receive–most difficult on the toddler who was with us. Sunday night–was not swamped. Not sure if this is their normal wait. It’s also a bit difficult to navigate their menus. However, their menus are EXTENSIVE, which is awesome. The move here appears to be TAKEOUT.
