El Fogón Colombian cuisine was born with the purpose of our family to show our gastronomy in Saint Louis. We felt the need to create a simple but also delightful menu that offers a variety of dishes to our customers. Festivals around Saint Louis have been our principal spots to deliver our traditional food menu with special Colombian ingredients such as corn and cheese. Since 2017 We started more than four years ago offering to our customers our traditional Colombian food through different Festivals around Saint Louis.

As a Colombian this food is not good recommendable. This is not “traditional food.” The food is nothing like our traditional food, the food is in small portions and most of the time it doesn’t have flavor or it’s dry. I’m not trying to start anything, I’m just being honest, since the costumers to this restaurant is mostly Americans they think this food is traditional and good. I’m sorry and I’m ahold your hand when I say this, but you’re being gaslighted. The food is not only expensive but also served in small portions. So yeah, do not recommend.

We went to Maize and Wheat restaurant for the first time. After reading so many good reviews, I thought I would be wowed at the food here. But, No – I had such a terrible eating experience. My husband ordered the Churrasco medium rare – the beef was served well done on a room temperature sizzler plate. When we asked our server about that, he simply blamed on the sizzler plate overcooked the meat and walked away. Such a cute response. I ordered the Corrientazo con pollo – the chicken was served cold as well. At this point, I didn’t bother to ask the server again, because he didn’t seem care about customer’s feedback. That’s totally fine to me. I”ll take my business elsewhere.

I went once with my son, been there 4 more times on my own. Great empanadas, arepa’s, chicken & rice soup! The tres leches dessert is great snd that coconut lemonade is chefs kiss delicious.There are so many more things that I want to try.The service is great.They will definitely answer any questions you have about things you don’t recognize.Food is always accurate, hot and fresh!!! Can’t go wrong, going to Maize and Wheat!!!!

Ordered three mini empanadas & another dish for me took 20 mins i think he forgot about us. Someone came by to say we are behind but everyone else was getting there food . We were there before them. But 20 mins later I got my food and though it was only the empanadas . They asked if i wanted something else but I said nah it took 20 mins for the 3 empanadas i dont feel like waiting another 20 mins. Was so excited to come and try it but made me not come again.

The food was good, but not great, authentic, and the place was extremely clean. The service was good. The price was little high and I wish the arepa had more filling. It was primarily cheese, as seen from the picture. If it had more meat and plantain that would have made closer to being worth $11, but considering there were no sides, it was lacking.

Came in for the first time today for lunch. Fast, friendly service, clean bathrooms, and the food was incredible. The Hawaiian empanada was delicious, as were the arepas. And as a certified Soup Girlie, the Caldo de Castillo hit the freaking spot. A generous portion of rich, flavorful broth. The beef ribs in the soup were a little intimidating at first, but my god, the meat was SO tender. The whole thing was like eating a big bowl of mom’s pot roast. Cannot wait to come back and try the rest of the menu!

Food was good, service was ok, atmosphere was standard. We tried the Colombian arepa and meat soup. The arepa was good, a bit pricey for the portion though. The meat soup was dense with cassava I guess. Didn’t really like the whole cassava, it’s a bit dry. The soup tasted good. Overall a bit pricey. I would recommend the arepas. They tasted interesting.

Well priced, well made Colombian food. Contrary to other reviews, I found the empanadas to be delicious, full and flavorful, and was well worth the $3.50. The staff were friendly and recommended different dishes for both meat eater and vegetarians. My wife is a vegetarian and had plenty of choices. The food took a few minutes to make, but was served hot and made fresh. I would highly recommend for a fun, well priced, different meal.
