From the moment we sat down table-side next to Chef Richard, we knew we were in for something special. Watching him cook right in front of us elevated the entire evening into dinner and a show. The attention to detail, the aromas, the sizzling pans was pure culinary magic.
We started with appetizers that were nothing short of extraordinary. The lobster tempura was light and perfectly tender. The sautéed scallops were beautifully caramelized and melted in your mouth. And the homemade gnocchi in a cream sauce? Pillowy, rich, and absolutely indulgent.
Each of us ordered something different for our entrée, and not a single dish disappointed. My husband raved that his filet mignon was the best he’s ever had, perfectly cooked, expertly seasoned, and served over a bed of tender orzo that soaked up every bit of flavor. My friend’s snapper over lobster ravioli was delicate and decadent all at once. I chose the chilean sea bass over lobster ravioli in a lemon caper sauce, and it was phenomenal. The brightness of the lemon and capers paired beautifully with the richness of the ravioli. Mike had the local kobi fish over orzo, fresh and flavorful, showcasing the best of Key West seafood.
And then came dessert… my goodness. The key lime cheesecake was creamy with just the right tang. The bananas foster was warm and indulgent. The lemon sponge cake was light and refreshing, and the cream puffs covered in creamy chocolate sauce were pure heaven.
From start to finish, Lola’s Bistro delivered an exceptional experience, intimate, flavorful, and unforgettable. Five stars isn’t enough. This place has officially earned a permanent spot at the top of our Key West list.
The key lime pie is the best on the island. Thick, rich, and tart.
From appetizers to entrées to desserts, every course was a clear level above anything else we have experienced in the area. Some of our favorite dishes included the lobster, scallops, and pork chops, each prepared with exceptional attention to detail, flavor balance, and presentation. The creativity, quality, and execution reflected true culinary artistry rather than a standard tourist offering.
You can feel the intention and passion behind the food, which makes the experience memorable rather than just a meal. If you are looking for an exceptional dining experience in Key West that feels authentic, inspired, and elevated, Lola’s is a must.
The scallops were enormous and exquisitely done, not rubbery but delicate, almost sublime, with a garlic sauce so complex it was the nuclear physics of taste.
The Hog Fish had a sauce that was simple and complex with a kick, the beef filet was filling and reminded me why I enjoy good, high quality red meat.
Dessert was bananas foster which was as wonderful and warm as a blanket wrapped around your shoulders in front of a fire on an icy February evening in northern Michigan. Even as the bananas foster began to cool, the cream retained it sweetness and the bananas their core warmth.
The chef works without recipes and seems to add magic here and there like someone casting spells. This is what it must have been like to watch Picasso paint, or Renoir.
We agreed we cannot recommend Lola’s enough! If you can get in there, consider by yourself lucky, because you won’t eat a better meal. Who knew a down to Earth chef on Key West Florida could blow away many a big city chef.
BTW, service was wonderful, attentive without patronizing, intelligent and charming. Lola herself went above and beyond to keep us informed during our wait and keep us engaged.
If you only eat in one place in Key West and you want to remember your meal for a long time, make a reservation at Lola’s.
